One of my playback devices can scroll the description on top of the video, so I had a nice three mins of reading your short review there with some aerobatics in the background, and then the landing by itself. Pretty much the ideal review, to be honest! I got the thing anyway because it seemed just above my borderline from a different review, haven't been able to fly it yet. Chipmunks would have been a little before my time if I was ever an air cadet ( I was a sea cadet because it was massively more fun for the time I could spare! got winched into a Sea King & flown around for an hour & the marines tried to take flight in raiding craft with us on board, so it wasn't all ground based... ) but they occasionally flew around the area dodging Brawdy Hunters & Chivenor Hawks when I was younger & my dad & a couple of his friends were RAF, so I do have a small attachment - plus they're DeHavilland a/c ( even if a branch ) & my engineering side is very fond of just about anything they ever touched! so I can forgive it a few sins. The external audio doesn't really say Chipmunk - admittedly it's been years so that could be my problem - & I worry a little about your FM comments, given I find all the taildraggers in MSFS rather too well mannered, but we'll see. Hopefully that sort of thing can be worked on. If only someone would do one for DCS... Edit: having flown it a bit, it does feel like an idealised Chipmunk with rudder assist, but then rudder trim seems to be something all MSFS a/c I've tried regard as something un-essential. Feels like it could do with some more inertia but that is also something generally lacking in small a/c. The loop artifact in the internal engine sound is going to drive me nuts... also, that tail wheel has to be steerable. Still, don't think I'll regret buying it, hopefully the annoyances will be fixed.
@cgaviator2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad it hit the spot! Sadly the FM is constantly hampered by MSFS updates. The MilViz Corsair is a massive handful, but that should be fixed soon. But this is too easy imo. Still, the only real big bear I have is the audio. But that is often fixed later or a 3rd party will rustle up something good.

The Chippy brings back so many memories. I started my flying in one about 2,400 years ago. Of course, a solid pilot like yourself, if ever you caught Flying Experience duty for those intrepid air cadets, would never take part in a, see who could make ‘em puke the fastest exercise. Perish the thought… Fun Times. Do you remember the Gnat, Jeez, that thing was small. Love the Channel. Great Stuff.

I never flew in a Chipmunk, used to look after one in the summer when an aircraft came to VY for air cadet flying experience. The oldest RAF plane/RAE plane I ever flew in was a de Havilland Devon, twin piston prop from Llanbedr to VY to pick up some spares for a Hawk that had landed at Llanbedr with an engine ECA fault.

I seem to remember that when inverted in the loop, the engine would cut , and then pick up again as you began the descent, it did not seem to do it in this. Did they change the carburettor in the later Chipmunks? Many happy hours flying in an ex RAF Chipmunk, as well as ATC Gliding then flying later and parachuting civilian and military, and not so long ago.
@cgaviator Жыл бұрын
I don’t think that’s modelled in this. With no firsthand experience, I believe the engine would cut under negative g, but if positive g is kept throughout the loop it should be fine
@robshirewood5060 Жыл бұрын
@@cgaviator Sounds logical, i remember the owner of the Chipmunk did some loops where there was only a slight change in the engine sound, and others where it went very quiet, then picked up, one in particular he called "The Twitcher" when i had control in a loop the engine seemed to die, and he said make sure your parachute is nice and tight, then when i slide the canopy back, make sure it goes right back, then release the seat straps, the blue ones, and when I say Jump Jump Jump, discard your helmet, stand up on the seat, take hold of the ripcord handle, and dive over the side aiming for the trailing edge of the wing, then when clear count one thousand to five thousand, and pull the handle fully out. Then I will see you on the ground. It was very quiet, except for the thumping in my ears. It seemed to last for ages. We continued diving then slowly levelled out and the engine picked up, I said are we going to jump? Good lord no, why would you want to jump from a perfectly healthy kite. It was his way of teaching me to be totally aware and not absorbed by the euphoria of actually being in control. It worked and it was well named as "The Twitcher", a very fine instructor, with a long history of military aviation. Sadly no longer with us. I learned to parachute after that as a precaution. I must get hold of this great simulator. Really enjoying all your videos and lessons, particularly enjoyed the one when you flew in Snowdonia, Nant Francon valley etc used to climb there based near the site of what had been an RAF Mountain Rescue Team hut in Bethesda, and also the one to Scotland, Inverness, my first ATC camp was RAF Kinloss. @@cgaviator if memory serves, the Chippy used a Rolls Gypsy engine that itself was mounted in the aircraft inverted. So, if you are inverted, the engine is then the right way up. But, the airplane was not fitted as standard with an inverted fuel system so after a few precious seconds the engine would splutter like a politician trying to tell the truth.
