Hey Guys!
In this video you can see how I have built my router planer.
It can also be used to make different grooves and profiles (A video with some frame profiles will be uploaded soon - so subscribe to be notified!).
For this I have used some steel rods and linear bearing balls, as well as some threaded rods.
Don’t forget to hit the subscribe button!
You can also check my Facebook page, so you can see in advance the projects that I'm working on!

I’ve been dreaming about something like this. So I searched a few things and I found your video. The dream would be that the wood mill that could have a clutch system that could be open or closed. And it would let go of the threading rod when open. And ideally it could work like a copy Carver, and have registration areas that could ride along easily switchable templates. So you could switch out templates that correspond with different bits and or different layers. Like a flat Panta Router. Could possibly even do flip parts. One of many dreams. Happy to see this. Thank you, and much love

Hey man - thanks for appreciation. I totally get your rationale :) I was also thinking about it, but considering the limited use for me, I have chosen to have only one axis threaded and the other one free. I think is easy to make it as you say though, with a connecting nut (the long one) flapping over the threaded rod. Cheers!

All this needs is a small motor with electrical stops so that you set and forget. Good Job!

better linear rails guide.. more control.. more precision. This is much complicated.. the less complex the more enjoyable the tool. for here and there.. god job anyway.

How do you know that your surface is perfectly flat? It could be that one corner is slightly higher that other. (thinking to make my own thing for this)
@wambydenis
@wambydenis Жыл бұрын
I think it’s not in the video because the correction needed in my case was minimal. After setting everything up, I did a run with the widest flattening bit that I had for the complete work surface, having the height adjusted to the lowest corner of the base. I hope that makes sense for you. Cheers

Does the linear rod bend because of the router's weight? Great build by the way!
@wambydenis
@wambydenis 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. No, Not at all. I've basically chosen the length considering this. I wanted to make sure that when the router is in the middle of the rod, and I even put a bit of pressure on it it doesn't bend at all.

Neat video. Now what does this do? I just bought my first router 2 weeks and was curious.

I'm mostly using it for planing and for straight line profiles. Is also useful when I do repetitive stuff as I get the reference on the rulers :)

Hey there! Found your channel while searching wether its possible to control a manual router (just like yours) with a CNC. I'm trying to adapt one of this routers to a cnc machine, so I dont have to buy a new one! If you know, any answer will be highly appreciated! Thanks!
@wambydenis

Theoretically nothing can stop you in doing this if you have all the other hardware and software needed parts and willing to try it :) I also thought of updating mine one day. A thing to highlight - I don’t think that the screw threaded rods are good enough for this purpose unless you have really powerful motors. They have a lot of friction with the nuts... wish you good luck with your plan!

Great job man! For straight cuts, have precision? Or a minimal detour?
@wambydenis
@wambydenis 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! It works pretty well for straight cuts, at least on the axis without the screw. The other might wobble a bit when spinning the handle of doing it fast.

@wambydenis
@wambydenis 3 жыл бұрын
This was just a personal prototype...I wouldn't build it like this for customers, but for sure a similar but a bit improved solution must be already on the market. If not or if is too expensive, I would recommend everyone to try make it by themselves, you'll have a huge satisfaction using it afterwards :)

Cool idea👍🏾😎. However i must chime in that your product is a manual router not a CNC router since there is no computer controlling its axial movements.

I’m struggling with understanding the purpose of the need for a threaded rod positioning system… Way to overcomplicate something and try to pass it off as something to be proud of.

In combination with the ruler It is actually very useful for profile making. When you know your bit is x mm and you want to overlap those multi shape bits.
