I think we all do the voice thing when talking to a camera because its not a human, Those bees were angry, do look after your eyes though and please don't get stung on our account! Great videos as always, thanks so much. Have a quiet evening. Peter

@@BlackMountainHoney having suffered on a few occasions in the past listening to presentations where the presenter had what I can only best describe as a monotone voice it makes for a long day lol Seeing the way you deliver information on your videos is a refreshing change . Having a changing voice really helps to engage the audience and you convey emotion so well be it failures, successes or the what exactly is going on here? moments which happens to us all. I hope you get a great season this year and im looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

Just as an advice for someone who sell queens you should not have any bad genetics in your apiary the queens you produce they could be mated with the males of this bad tempered colony which result to the clients will more likely to have the same genetic The queen I bought from you didn’t make it for the winter, if you could improve the resistance against the elements in your selection Like your videos keep the good work take care 👍

Hi Laurence mate, I think the voice thing is we all have our telephone voice which we are usually well spoken and mind our Ps and Qs then there’s our say camera voice I notice it myself I always shout at the camera don’t know why maybe with me it’s because I’m deaf in my left ear and shout all the time and end up asking people to repeat themselves 10 times over lol . Bloody big angry colony you have got yourself there mate I hate it when 9 times out of 10 my bees are ok then you get the 1 time when they’re like proper nasty little buggers sometimes freaks me out and usually have to step away for a few minutes, interesting experiment with the checker boarding method great vlog Laurence mate.

This was a a very entertaining video 😂. The voice thing- hilarious. The bees- what the heck is their problem? That is the angriest hive I’ve ever seen someone do an inspection on. Wow! I hope the queen replacement helps. Good luck!

Thanks for your videos. I get a lot out of them. This one did crack me up though, with your comments about your voice! 😂🤣 I need a laugh at the moment, as here in Australia we have been informed that Varroa Mite have infested some hives in NSW. Praying they can be contained and eliminated before they spread too far. We have not had to deal with them before.

My husband and I talked about this the other day when we noticed your voice was different now to some of your earlier videos. It reminds me of how teachers use their 'teacher voice' when doing a class input 😆

Hi Laurence, I’m also trying with checker boarding with 4 of my hives at two apiaries. The colonies were huge but good natured. I don’t think the aggression is due to the checkerboarding. Two of my colonies got ahead of me even though they were over supered with 8 supers by March. I couldn’t keep up with the growth in May and they both swarmed. I caught the large swarms though. They other two didn’t appear to swarm although I can’t be sure as they are in a woodland. They are mega with 10 supers all full until early June when we had a few days of bad weather. A week later I noticed dead bees out the front. The pile kept growing and I realise I had a bad case of Chronic Bee Paralysis, so far I’ve removed a bin bag and a half of dead bees and it has spread to its neighbouring checkerboard hive. Two weeks on now and the death rate seems to be dropping off. So one side effect or giant hives could be that it leads to over crowding and then to the spread of the CBPV.

The voice thing is totally normal. When you have a suit on.... microphone.... camera action. Sure the internal tension levels go up. Also having to be louder than buzzing bees does not help.( Makes you raise your voice. I have noticed in some of your older videos your piece to camera when your indoors and relaxed comes over very well. Well spoken , clear easy and relaxed. Ask any reporter.... In the field piece to camera is not easy. I Personally think you do a far better job than 99% of us who have something to say. So don't sweat it. keep the videos coming.... PS At least we all know its real.... That's the most important .

Voice change is because you have elevated your voice volume to account for the space between you and the microphone. Wear a wireless microphone and critique your sound. Use a system that allows you to "clip" your sound. But remember bees pick up transmissions by cameras like on a phone. Probably because they see the camera as a light source sort of like working your bees with a flashlight at night. Wearing a microphone with its own transmitter might make you a target. (snicker, snicker-lol)

@@BlackMountainHoney Wonder of wonders. There I go trying to blame the equipment to help a guy out. I guess it is you. You are pretty well trained then. Like automatic. When you get closer to the camera your voice moderates a little and when you step back it modulates. That's pretty sneaky but done well. A big thumbs up (lol)

One thing I have noticed with my bee's is, The larger the colony the more aggresive they tend to be all of mine are on brood & half except for two which are on two brood & one super, These are well lets say very protective. So these two will be down sized later.

Tricky to checkerboard with different sized brood boxes - you have a lot of volume there where nothing much is happening particularly in the 14x12 - do you think the queen pheromone is too dilute so they are stressed?

You’ve released to many videos with aggressive bees. There is no excuse now, you’ve had enough time this year. as a responsible bee keeper you should purged that behaviour out of your colonies, they could be mating with neighbours apiaries or your own open mated queens. Even during a Demi manipulation you could swap out the queen with a friendly laying queen.

I've done some professional presenting to camera. You never speak in your natural voice because you need to add emphasis and interest to hold the audience. You present well, in my opinion, don't change.
