@@disneydanny2 There are several versions of the story. You're correct if you're referring to the original script. Later versions changed the order of the songs, and "Someone Else's Story" is in some cases sung by Svetlana as her introduction in the second act, not Florence after the fight with Freddy.

I know- her fury in these scenes is like a shimmering rift in the air. You can almost see it coalescing around her as one character after another brings up Hungary to manipulate her at the worst possible moments, in the worst possible ways. . . but "Nobody's Side" was supposed to be the explosion when all of this reaches critical mass, and the normally superlative Idina Menzel somehow whiffs it.

I love Chess ! This is my favourite piece of all between Florence and Molokov , I love the interaction and squabbling over the players - and then turning personal “and you call yourself a fellow Eastern European ?” Love that line. India is beautiful as Florence. I’m so sad that the versions of the soundtrack I have don’t include this interaction with Florence and Molokov ! The part that starts with “the game is greater than its players...” and ends with “and you call yourself a fellow Eastern European ?” Other versions have a piece entitled “Florence and “Molokov” but it’s entirely different lyrics and music. I know the musical has many versions even different endings , and some small things change like some have “thirty years in they’re the same “ is “twenty years on” in some. And some have added or missing parts - which mostly I can take or leave - but this part is my absolute favourite part / and I’ve never come across it on a soundtrack ! I’ve seen it on a video of a rehearsal of chess staring Julia Murney as Florence and couple of videos here , but does anyone know where to get hold of a soundtrack with this part on it ? Maybe just me but I can’t seem to find it on I tunes or anywhere ? The other song I can’t seem to find is “how many woman ?” I’m not sure if it’s that those are from older versions or if it’s from American versions vs others or what the differences are , really fascinating musical I love the music and lyrics , and Idina Menzel is just beautiful as Florence in this. I have a soundtrack that has Idina but it doesn’t have this piece on it -? Would love to find it If anyone knows where I can buy it , and love to find the soundtrack of one with Julia murney as Florence too !

I was there and performing, Idina Josh and Adam had flew into London from the US and went straight into a dress/tech rehearsal at around 9am with everyone else, who they’d never met before , who had also only ever rehearsed in their own groups, dancers, the choir, featured singers and the UK based actors such as Clarke peters and David badella , including the orchestra, who had never even played together until that day…it was all put together in 8 hours held together by the the most amazing man and Conductor David…before we all went live and it was filmed, we didn’t even have time to rehearse the last 34 minutes….. so if you want to put anyone down….go ahead, but could you pull this off so professionally ?

It was a great performance, but isn't it the singer's responsibility to keep in time with the orchestra? Conductor can't exactly force the orchestra to speed up/slown at will. Especially a big one like this.
@Hakausu3 жыл бұрын
@@Natasha-tu5qs It is the accompaniment's job to keep time with the singer or other soloist when one is featured and not part of the orchestra. The conductor absolutely can and should slow down or speed up the tempo based on the singer. Some conductors do have a god complex, though, and a very rigid personality that does not lend itself to such performances. I have accompanied many people and also sung solo and played in all kinds of bands. The "leader" is always the one who is soloing. There are limits, as soloists know. They can't make up their own tempo from one note to the next, but this is not a case like that. Hope that helps.

Idina is good in this as well I don't see much of anything wrong with her performance. I thought she sang this song very well and I don't hear any nasally thing to her. She is a PHENOMENAL performer. Forget nasal singing - in every song, in nearly every single line, she rushes it. By the time she sings the last word of the line, she's almost a beat early. Ruins it for me. A lot of this musical is very percussive, the words need to punch with the drums and you can't do that if one sounds like an echo of the other. Shame because I really wanted to like this.

I’m not a fan of Idina, but i wondered why i found this so unsettling until i read this comment. You’re right about the lack of percussion in her delivery

Completely agree. Not sharp enough and no attack. This is a defiant song.

I concur -- Idina is just pushing tempo too hard, well past the point of 'individual artistic interpretation.' She's not without talent, but this rendition doesn't showcase her favorably.

That’s because all the backing vocals for the Swedish version were pre-recorded in a studio. This performance is 100% live.

Man, if it wern't for that Rent Maureen sounding voice, it would sound good. Elaine Paige is the best. Other than that, the rest of the cast is real good. I really like Idina Menzel but this is kind of "not her style."

Oh dear, that Nobody's Side was... difficult. I really like Idina, but never mind "not one of her best", this was a bad performance. Too bad. Maybe if they'd had more rehearsal time, she'd have done well.

@@marytheresaburns4728 She really didn't, listen to the Elaine Paige version.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/haWkfqWGf8xqa9E ... compared to that, this is unpleasant....she sounds like she should be in Disney movies with birds fluttering around her. It makes her sound like a vocal student in comparison... It doesn't help that they changed the script and the lyrics..

I wonder how this woman got this role. She screeches! Not a patch on Elaine, Judy, or Helen. Alexandra Burke was so much better. But the overall was brilliant.

These are the exact same lyrics that were sung at the West End in 1986. They differ from the concept album’s one because the album came out in 1984, before the show was even staged and the script still wasn’t in its final form. They had to change the lyrics a bit when the script was completed.
