A better way of testing a led îs to put the multimeter in diode mode because the led itself IT îs a diode and You will see If the led îs lighting up

Most christmas lights, especially older ones, are incandescent bulbs, not LEDs. They are starting to make LED christmas lights since they are far more energy efficient, but the market is still very lacking, and the colors are often not what people want. So you would not want to put it in diode mode. And @technofeeliak, I had to look up that multimeter user manual because I've never used one with settings like that, but on the 20k settings the display has a resolution of 10Ω. So if it read .3 it would be 3Ω and if it read 30 that would be 300Ω. A single average christmas light bulb should have a resistance of about 7-8Ω from what I can find
