If you haven't already done so, you should condense your large hive. There is too much empty space and empty frames, which will lead to hive beetles....

This is so fascinating! I love your bee vlogs! Question if I may? Do you get stung often? I’m allergic to stings and I think that’s what draws me to beekeeping (though I never will, since I am so allergic). But the idea of looking that fear in the face is attractive to me. Thank you for sharing all you do... I love it! 🐝

Sometimes people are spraying insecticides in their yards and if your bees are gathering contaminated nectar and pollen it can also affect your queens... this can also affect your honey too See if your bee club has yard signs that will let neighbors to be aware that your yard is a GMO-free zone and any chemicals used within the bee traveling radius is prohibited.

Hi Emmy, Have been enjoying your video's however been wondering why you have many boxes on a hive where it is not strong. Seems like too much space for a colony which appears not to be strong. Try and consider reducing them to 3 boxes.

Emmy, wondering if you have the same locally enforced rule as we do here in Waterloo Ontario..... we can only keep a hive if 30 feet away from neighbors? I feel so discouraged by having looked this up today, as I have thought about having a beehive for a few years and got inspired by your videos and a couple others enough to investigate further..... thinking of sponsoring a hive by local growers....but maybe you or others might have some ideas on how to have a hive .....

Will be interesting to see how introducing a queen into a hive with an already active queen goes. (I'm guessing you have to try and find and remove the old queen?) Once again a great video! :D 🐝

Hardcore bee watcher here! Do beekeepers plant gardens for their bees or just leave it to them to find what's available? If so you might be able to find some late blooming plants to help in this dearth season. I live in Florida so I may just be thinking like a warm weather creature and this might not make sense for your more northern planting region. Lolol
@alexreith48776 жыл бұрын
greenquartz I am further north from Emmy and my friend has zinnias that are still going strong. If I had bees I would plant for as long a season as possible. Next year I'll plant more for the wild bees anyway.
@greenquartz6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! 😊 I've been researching about natural pollinators lately. I dont have much of a green thumb, but I'm going to try for a small flower garden next spring for the wild bees and such also.

I don't know anything about beekeeping. But can't you take that wonderful hive Queen that's blue and put her in the big hive in the future? I know you can't right now but that's what I would try to do if It would work out. She is a amazing Queen.

You have so many empty frames on your 1st big hive, shouldn't you remove one of those supers so they don't have so much room to work? Also I don't understand why you feel you have to button up so fast while you're inspecting. If it's a nice warm day I can stay in mine for a long time, especially when I am looking for my queen. ♥️
@samanthaevans42316 жыл бұрын
I know nothing about bees. but it seems as if they have swarmed again. population in the big hive seems very low.
@donbeissel29656 жыл бұрын
What happened to all the nectar that you spun out earlier? I thought that was to feed in the dearth.
@emmymadeextras6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve been feeding it back to them.
@donbeissel29656 жыл бұрын
I am still not sure why you stole their food only to feed it back to them later. I know you said someone in your bee club said to do this, but did they offer a rational? It seems like you interrupt the honey making process and risk introducing bacteria and fungus into the nectar that you feed back. I was thinking that if you need room for the queen to lay you would do 1 of 2 things. Either split the hive (and the resources), or add another box and move the nectar up and replace the nectar frames with empty frames in the lower box. Lastly, isn't that "puff of smoke to let them know your are coming" actually meant to hide that you are coming by masking any alert pheromones in the hive?
@rinabeans6 жыл бұрын
Don Beissel she did it to create room for the queen bees to lay eggs so she wouldn’t get the feeling to swarm off and start a different hive somewhere else.
