In this video, we give you a little peek into what Pat does when he works an older horse in the round pen. Not to be confused with the very thorough and exacting process of starting or restarting a horse. This is something different altogether. Pat works a horse with a rope whenever he is preparing the horse for a specific situation, like riding in an area where there is wire on the ground or when something comes up with the horse's behavior that warrants a closer look. With Cinder, both cases are true. Pat will be cowboying on Cinder on a ranch where he's encountered quite a bit of barbed wire on the ground. Also, Cinder has developed the habit of not wanting humans in his right eye. Added to this mix, Pat is riding Badger aka Tejon, a 15 year old ranch horse that is currently for sale. I hope you enjoy all of the small nuggets contained in this video. For more information, head over to our website, www.thediscipli.... I am six weeks posr-op from ankle "replacement " surgery. I now have several hundred hours of watching Pat on youtube. I always enjoy watching him rope. Twenty years ago I interviewed him for a magazine article and asked him how he got to be so dead sure with a rope ....his answer was....."I got tired of missing".

Because of Pat I roped my Colt and he recently got caught up in some grapevine .the other day while walking him through the woods He is a very flighty sensitive horse and I thought for sure he would freak out but he didn’t he remained very calm , stood still and slowly worked it out . I plan to teach him to hobble too. I use to think it was cruel to hobble . I get it now . This is some great stuff you are teaching . My Missing link snaffle is on its way. 😊

So badger is from Mexico? He’s stocky like some of the Canadian mountain horse breeds. Very stout, I like it. On a side note I’ve owned and used your bit for about a year. It was tremendously helpful getting an older mare back listening to me. She was resentful of the snaffle from too many previous heavy handed folks. When I started working with her I got her in that, I could tell the anxiety level with the roller. Helped her, helped me. Thanks - josh, Temecula ca.

I really appreciate your detail explanations. After watching so many videos I’ve heard you talk about the right eye, but missed the reason horses don’t like you in the right eye. Thanks again may you have safe and happy trails!

Horse people are taught to do everything from the left of the horse, so often the right side is much less tame. They have to be taught things from both sides.

Thanks for the video. I enjoy learning good habits from ya'll. I some times have to rope a goat on foot and I have a cute little lasso made from plaited hay string by friend from Sonora.

THIS IS GREAT ...If I still had my horses I'D rope the STEW outa them from the Ground first, both from the ground, then rope them from the other horse...I think this is REALLY a great exercise to get them used to the rope AND for them getting tied up in some DURN WIRE ... I cut a horse out of barbed wire many years ago, And believe me they can get really TANGLED up in barbed wire ??? Thanks for this and all the other videos DEB youdo a GREAT job on the videos and PAT is a RELLY GOOD instructor..thanks again, guys ...

Perfect video for me today. Started working with an old mustang pony" unbranded". Really skiddish and almost ready for halter. No pen at the site and I gotta pony him home. Any suggestions? Florida gal.

You can spook the horse into a trailer, get him to a roundpen, and go to work roping him.

Thanks for the video. You’ve helped me a lot with your common sense approach and reasoning. What kind of rope do you like again? I believe it’s a 5/16” kings 60’ but couldn’t remember hearing the lay in previous videos. Looks to be at least XS maybe even XXS. Thanks again

Just the other day I had my horses tied up because I wanted them to clear out a Spot they didn't Wanted to graze on. And I believe I had them too close from where I tied them up. Because my youngest horse wrapped around my older horse. And then my oldest horse wrapped around a foot from his rope. and the youngest horse Got nervous. and he went all over the place making my old horse nervous. but then I noticed it so I went down there and untied the youngest horse. I could onwrap the older horse foot and I noticed the old horse was still breathing while everything was going on. I couldn't hear much from the youngest horse so I thought that was Kind of interesting. Anyway so I went back for the youngest horse and. I tied him back Notice he didn't have any cuts or rope Burns. Then I move further away the oldest horse and I notice he also didn't had any cuts or Burns even though he had a rope around his leg that was nice. Don't want to think about what would happen if I haven't roped them when I got them.
