Another thing to note is that if the motor mounts start sagging or compressing that will disrupt the fan alignment and the fan will likely contact that shroud making for a mess. So stay on top of ageing motor mounts.

Hey Brother! Good video as usual. I changed my rad when I first got my 89 GT. My fan was in very similar condition. Ordered the LMR parts and did the change... I must say that the slots in the new fan clutch where it attaches to the water pump makes it easier to change than having the holes. You can start 1 of the bolts slide it on and then the last remaining bolts line up... 💯👊🏾

Hello. Really enjoy your videos. Lots of great info. This is a bit off topic but when you purchased your AFR heads did you have them checked over by a machine shop before installing or install out of the box. I hear lots of people say to get them checked out first before installing. Thanks for your time
@KASLCustoms2 жыл бұрын
Hello Sir! Thank you very much for the kind words! I did not have mine checked by a machine shop. I did check them over within my own capabilities but I did not use a machine shop and I have not had a single issue. I guess there is always those "one off scenarios" where someone somewhere got a bad set of heads and has had issues but honestly, I think that only happens .00001% of the time and is not very common. Keep in mind that one of those stories can travel around the car community like wild fire and before you know it, everyone is talking about the same story as if it happened to them which leaves you feeling like this is a very common occurrence... Everyone has a different risk tolerance on these types of things and it can be tough to know what to do (especially when you don't want to "screw anything up..." 😆). And once you take in everyones opinion, you can feel more confused then before you started! My advice would be: 1. If you have the money to spend and not having them checked by a machine shop will keep you awake at night, get them checked. Alternatively, check them over your self and trust that the $2K+ you spent went into some good quality parts, bolt them on and have fun 😉.

Good topic. This is one of the repairs ive just done. However my fan was hitting on the shroud (probably due to worn engine mounts) but nothing a tad of triming didnt fix. I kept my belt on and just pulled the shroud and fan together.

Same here! Flow tubes, back and forth, one tail pipe fit deep inside the muffler, other side wouldn’t go far enough to seal the slits in the muffler outlet without being against the rearend. Then making sure the Lx tails are even…….. once I had it good, I changed it all up 🙃

Hey I have a dumb question…. I’ve been seeing and hearing of people going to an electric fan. Was wondering why go back to OEM vs electric?
@KASLCustoms2 жыл бұрын
Hey bud. It’s a long story which many people have debated for years! That said (in my humble opinion 😉), the mechanical fan - in stock format with the stock shroud - performs better when the car is in motion and/or the engine is above 1000rpm. An electric fan will out perform a mechanical fan when the vehicle is idling and/or at very low speeds/rpms. All that said, I’m no engineer or scientist but based upon what I’ve seen and know with these cars, this is the physics of the two options 🤓😉👍

Great video. Fan and clutch are one of the first things to do for that exact reason. I notice you use LMR a lot for standard replacement parts. They are excellent for 5.0 Resto but are kind of expensive due to exchange and shipping. I like Rock Auto a lot when buying standard replacement parts. I want to say I paid $60 CDN shipped to Ontario last year when I did my fan and clutch.
@KASLCustoms2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow! Hey hats good to know. I actually haven’t used rock auto yet. I’ve tried their site a few times but didn’t find it very user friendly… that said, I may have to take another run at trying them. Thx for the tip 🙏👍👊

@@89gt5.0 agree but better cooling
@KASLCustoms2 жыл бұрын
Hey guys! Not to try and “stoke the fire” on this one but in all my years doing this, I’ve found that a mechanical fan cools better in all cases except when sitting still (in traffic) or driving at very low rpm/speeds. My coupe gets hot very quick at low speeds/traffic while driving it in hotter temps however the temp drops very fast once I get moving. It is also a mechanical fan. I agree 100% on freeing up the “drag” on the drive belt in turn freeing up some power however I would be very interested to see a real world test on how much it really helps. I’m sure it does I’ve just always wondered by how much 🤷♂️
