Would like to have seen ,not only in this video but in most others on this channel, an actual demonstration. Listening to an intelligent head is nice but seeing how things are actually done is more helpful. Good tips though. .

Using Eterna bond to cover sealant. As an RV tech I get asked this all the time, the idea is great because it protect it from the elements if applied correctly (the old saying Eter bond works 100% of the time 50% of the time). In reality the tape can cover leaks and when the tape fails (and it will) you may not know it until it's too late and it's a pain to take off. So, what can you do? Hire someone like me to go up on the roof and go up with them. Ask lots of questions of what they are looking for, I love teaching customers. Another reason for going up is finding holes or rips, and sealant failures in general. Many many many times I have found issues that have already destroyed the underlayment plywood. If a person had only bothered to check AT LEAST ONCE a year they could have saved thousands!!!! Just remember here in Connecticut we charge at least $200 a foot to replace the TPO or EPDM rubber, that's not including the rotten plywood. Please, Please have your roof check!!!!!! THAT NEW ONES TOO, DONT TRUST THE SELLERS OR MANUFACTURERS !!!

@@joelshaw1961 the RV manufacturers don't even use this from the manufacturing site. They use the lowest quality lap sealant in the industry. If they actually did use eternaBond it would last several years and make the roof nearly maintenance free

I was just working on a roof of a brand-new toy hauler camper Monday and noticed that the manufacturer used an Eterna bond "type" tape to connect both the front and back caps to the rubber membrane. This is not the first or the last time Ill see this in my 10 yrs of owning an RV repair business.

@@joelshaw1961 I highly doubt it was from the manufacturer some third party must have been involved at some point but I might be wrong maybe they are changing things up in the industry that I'm not aware of.

I love your tech tips. Keep them coming! I went out and purchased CRC Parts Cleaner & Degreaser Pro Series per your recommendation. Reading the label it states: Protect all rubber, plastic and painted surfaces from the product overspray. Is this safe to use on a TPO rubber roof? Thanks for the help.

So let’s say you remove or have to relocate a solar panel. Do you just put the old screws back in with lap sealant? Do you put eternal bond over the holes? Or just pull the screws and put lap sealant I’ve the holes?

Todd, what about flex seal vs. lap sealant on a membrane roof? my camper was bought new last year, so i'm not expecting to find and issues with my seals yet. i'm am planning on adding another solar panel on my roof though, and the local big box store doesn't carry lap sealant that i could find. i live in a rural area that doesn't have any RV places nearby that have lap sealant.

you can use it. it may appear to leave a stain on the roof until it rains. If that doesn't bother you, then you can certainly apply 30 SECONDS Outdoor Cleaner without rinsing - just ensure good saturation

We need to seal up a leak on an outside front corner, about half way down. What should be used there? Is silicone ok there? It will need to fill in between the outside corner trim and the outside metal wall. Dicor is self leveling so it would just run down the side of the trailer and not stay in the gap, correct? Thanks!!!!
@chrisstinnett8183
@chrisstinnett8183 2 жыл бұрын
Martin, DICOR makes a non-leveling sealant, too--that's the way you want to go. It won't run and will stay in place. Just look carefully at the label to ensure that it's non-leveling and not self-leveling. Both are great products in the correct place.
@Barbara-iz7bp
@Barbara-iz7bp 2 жыл бұрын
Some sealants start to fail at 3 months. Please read the label carefully, it's worth it to pay a little more to get a longer-lasting sealant. Here in Canada I was told if I use dicor I would need to replace it every 6 months. The sealant on my Edge lasted 19 years before it gave way. It is the corner that is directly affected 90% of the time from the elements and the wind I can drive the water into the seals. I am taking my Corners apart, cleaning thoroughly with denatured alcohol, new butyl, replace corners with non rusting screws, then cleaning the excess butyl carefully with denatured alcohol and then using a excellent quality sealant. I plan to replace the sealant on all four corners from top to bottom. I keep a record of all my repairs. When I sell I would love to get top dollar. In the meantime a little more work now means alot less misery later

I have a hard time using sealers that the manufacturer of that producttells you to just keep slobbering on more and more to seal something. Check out the YT? Channel RV Roof Install, in Georgia. After watching his channel and the failures of roofs, sidewalls and ANY penetration that water can intrude and destroy structure of your RV. His favorite saying about the most popular sealers is what those manufacturer's state, " slobber more on, moron". Meaning if it fails and is lifting around edges of sealer, just keep slobbering it on. Not good, if sealer installed is not sealing, putting more on over existing, ain't gonna work. Check out his channel. Not fit but does have good info and will show what is going to happen. Love your videos and channel except on this matter. Keep up great work.
