Back in 1981, my family for the first time had cable television. We also got the Showtime channel and we decided to make it a family viewing night so we could watch the first film together. My father, mother and myself popped some popcorn and sat down to watch our very first uncut or edited movie on Showtime...and it was "Up in Smoke". 40 years later and I can still see my father laughing so hard at the first 15 minutes of this movie we had to stop watching so he could breathe. Tears streaming down his bearded face and laughing harder than I ever had before or ever again. My father passed away on Memorial day in 2019 and I miss him terribly because he was and is still the greatest man I ever knew, but the memory of him watching that movie will stay with me until it is my time to join him again...Thank you so much for this video...it brought back a very cherished memory for me...God Bless...

No violence in the 1970s?! The murder rate in the '70s was higher than today. People always have this idea that the past was better. This despite the fact that the murder rate was highest during the colonial period; an estimated 30 per 100,000. Los Angeles is much safer in comparison.

I was still in high school (1980) and we just got HBO, for some reason it was just me and my dad at home and I started watching this movie and I can still see my father laughing so hard his face was turning red. My dad was as straight as an arrow, right out of the 50s, didn't even drink. But he had a great sense of humor. I was laughing more at watching him crack up than at the movie.

Chong picked me up hitchhiking in the seventies. We ended up getting very stoned. He was really a nice dude. He gave me a free ticket to his concert and then afterwards about 15 of us partied until daylight. I saw him 30 years later at a concert and while he and his wife were selling t-shirts afterwards, I asked if he remembered it. He said, yeah that could have happened. I don't think remembered but he knew he could have done it. He was very nice about it.

I had a similar incident back in '78. Riding in the passenger seat, my friend & I pulled over by the RCMP. The cop knocks on his driver's side window, starts asking questions. My friend is quite wasted, both hands on the steering wheel while he stares straight out in front. The cop asks "What's your name, son?... What's your Name, son???... I said What's your NAME, SON?!!!" My stupefied friend continues to stare silently oblivious to the policeman's queries. I jump in and implore of my friend "Bill!...Bill!...BILL!!!" Friend: "WHAAT?!" Me: BILL, WHAT'S YOUR NAME?!! Bill: BILL!!! At this point, I took over the conversation and explained we were from out of town visiting an Uncle, who lives RIGHT THERE. Fortunately, they knew who the Uncle was, a TV Sportscaster, and we were just 100 ft. from his driveway. The cops mercifully let 2 16 year old kids go without charging us for being drunk minors who were weaving all over the road. BILL! WHAT? WHATS YOUR NAME? BILL!

The original album came with the GIANT paper. Fortunately for me my older brother loved the comedy but never smoked so in 1988 I found it. It took me and 25 friends literally 3 hours to smoke it. We all went in and I was sick of smoking before we finished it. We were stopping other friends we attended high school with to help us finish. The county police stopped twice specifically to laugh at us and drive away. The 80's were awesome. And we did acid a lot and watched Up In Smoke, Pink Floyd the Wall, Heavy Metal or we turned on Pink Floyd's CASSETTE or ALBUM Dark Side of the Moon and watched the Wizard of Oz. Turn down the sound on the TV and pump up the sound on the stereo as soon as Dorothy starts her path on the yellow brick road. Gotta here the Munchkins sing on LSD or you have NEVER really laughed....lol

We would smoke pot continuously during that time along with "some other things". We would really enjoy ourselves! I'm 75 now and almost the last one left out of our group. We were all very lucky to have made it as long as we did! I admit that we all had a good few years but wouldn't want any of my grandchildren or their friends to follow our example! @@jamesoconnor9027 Wow. Bad trip. I never hallucinated like that. That night, there was a group of us friends all just walking around the city. (It was the 80s, you could do that then.) We found ourselves at a local high school football field. I remember wandering around the field for hours because the grass looked like it was raising itself up a few inches and making little walls that snaked all over the field. So, I just followed them. No clue what my friends were doing at that time. Probably laughing at me. Also, the tops of the trees kept sprouting identical tops to the ones they had, but they never got any taller. One friend who was with us that night started tripping bad and said that she saw Satan and that he was coming after her. So, we all had to get her calmed down and then we walked to her house. I was going to go to sleep, but I had to use the bathroom and I did what everyone had told me not to do: I looked in the mirror. I have no idea how long I was in the bathroom.

A LONG time ago, my boyfriend and I drove way out into the woods late at night and we took only a half of a hit of acid each just to try it. We were in the middle of nowhere enjoying the night sky and tripping on it. All of a sudden I hear talking and we're like "what the heck?" as there should be nobody around. Next thing we see is a young couple with two little kids coming toward our car. Their car had broke down and they had hiked for like two hours in the dark through a country road in the redwood trees (they went in the wrong direction...lol) So we took the whole family back to town and wouldn't you know they wanted to be dropped off at the police station. THAT was a trip I've never forgotten. No more acid for me after that. LOL

I will be 70 in September, and I remember when this movie came out. Cold blizzard night, kids were all in bed, and friends of ours came over, so we decided to get high. Well, Chuck had some acid, and even though I had never had it before, I did that night. 🥴😧 We had green shag carpeting and the carpet started to grow like grass. The walls were breathing ...expanding in and out. I kept hearing goats, and then my knee was feeling all wet. When I looked down, Chuck was drooling beer all up and down my leg. And that's all I remember. I woke up on the living room floor the next morning, but it sure was a heck of a party! 👍

I would say that the environment dictates what kind of trip you will have. I preferred to do it at concerts or festivals. I wouldn't recommend it home alone unless you want to go on the ' what's the universe all about and the meaning of life' trip. Not recommended at a couples dinner party unless everyone is on it. What a drag, can't concentrate on the conversation and can't burst out laughing at random thoughts that have nothing to do with anything. They won't understand.

The LP 33.3 RPM " Up in smoke " came with a rolling paper that big and as with 99.6 % of those who bought it they used the paper in the album rather than ordering a ' Pack ' of them, it went to show how impatient most people were/are. I did have the address but it was lost with my clothes and other things during a move. Still many very good times, LOL.

Ok, this is a true story. Back in the day the Cheech and Chong album, Up in Smoke, came with a HUGE rolling paper. My friends and I Rolled it up, I think it took an ounce, then we took it to a Rush concert, the 1984 Grace under pressure tour. It wasn't quite that big but almost. Anyway we had a blast and so did everyone around us.

Long before Cheech and Chong were on television, we had a girls camping trip in the early 70s, along the Yuba River with a campfire our sleeping bags and a tape of Creech and Chong on the beach of the river. It was hilarious I'd never heard talk like that. It was adult supervised camping trip of course. And it took some doing to get the adults to let us play it let alone the whole thing. In my 60s now but I still remember that trip. I sure miss the innocence of my youth.

This always reminded me of how high I was back in high school while hot boxing with my homies. The school police pulled up to the car, knocked on the window. I was so stoned I thought the widow was down and was going to flick the blunt outside, I flicked it and it looked like Disney popping fire works in the car because the cherry smacked that window and blunt pieces and hot burning weed went everywhere
