The fact that Ong Ye Kung is so comfortable with Chinese gives him a plus factor to become the next PM. This fluency would be very helpful in his understanding of Chinese-speaking Singaporeans and also in building rapport with leaders of China, Taiwan and Hong Kong (yes, he speaks Cantonese too). More importantly, unlike Chan Chun Seng, he is relaxed and authentic.

His strong command of Chinese gives him an edge as a future PM. His understanding & handling of covid is deep despite just being posted to Health Ministry very recently. I honestly think he stands a good chance to becoming the next PM. Chan is also good but he lacks the X factor.

While he excel in Chinese, he is also well versed with Western culture. He studied in LSE and lived in UK for some years. From his role as Minister of Health, he appears not afraid to do what is right yet temporarily unpopular, and make effort to explain to people. Not jeopardizing the healthcare system is so crucial, given that people still need a robust healthcare for the other purposes like give birth, treatment and etc.
