Ooooh my goodness guys! I had cheer tryouts today.. now lemme tell ya... I am currently in the 8th grade and made it for the VARSITY POMS team at my high school (for freshman year)!! I am so stoked!!! I have watched millions of cheer videos.. probably unhealthy how many I’ve watched actually 😂 but I made it. I also have had NO previous cheer experience. At all. I didn’t even know how to do a toe touch for Pete’s sake! I did however go to many clinics and tried my absolute hardest. I kind of biffed it on my double turn today... but I had a total of four callbacks 😨 andddd... I made it! I don’t really know what I did to be honest, just kinda smiled and made my movements confident and sharp. I LOVE YALL! Even though I don’t know anyone.... meep.... haha believe in yourself!!! And smile!!!! 😀😀😀😄😄

My favorite tip I have ever gotten on my toe touches is from this video. I watched so many videos and every time I had the star jump effect. Teammates and coaches have told me to rotate my hips but it came very unnaturally for me. The idea of "sitting" in your jump help my hips relax enough to rotate so I can complete a cleaner and all around better toe touch. Thank you so much!!! Love your channel!

lauren haygood to get your knees to face up you need to be stretching. Because when your limber (flexible) it makes toe touches easier. So do middle splits about 5 times a day basically

+Freeman Forever I take hot baths too. Also, my chiropractor had told me a while back for my all over, cheer pain to get lavender epsom salts and put it into the hot bath. Make sure you put a decent amount into the water and make sure it dissolves completely before getting in. (You don't want to sit on salt rocks, ouch.) It really works to sooth your muscles. When you get out of the bath you want to put actual ice, not just icy hot, on your sore spots in 15 minute on-off intervals. It numbs/soothes the muscles. As well as, take down any inflammation. Hope this helps!!

Since I've started cheer, I have realized a few things aka this is going to be a rant. Like I show always straighten my hair before any sort of performance (games, competition, ect.). It just makes doing my hair a lot easier. Hairspray is my best friend (I'm pretty sure it's every cheerleader/dancer's best friend). Competition week/weeks are the worse. I like running 5 or more laps for a warm up, more than I like doing 3 sets of jumping jacks. Always bring money for game days and competitions. Doing more than 3 or 4 stair laps is horrible. Everyone better be running all their laps, or Imma beat someone. If the coach is talking you're not, cause I'm not as fit as you little 7th graders, I dont want to run 5 more laps around a hot gym. I never just an off season, besides May, then it's back to cheer in June. If you quit cheer, no matter what the reason, dont be rude to the girls (or boys) on the team, because the coach will find out, also it's not nice. Also if you quit cheer (or any sport really) return the uniform and tell the coach. If you are a flyer, please hold your weight up, squeeze your penny, control your butt, and dont balance yourself, it just makes it 10 time more easier to keep you in the air. I hate cheering on the side lines. If you start a cheer, say it very loud and proud. Always do your motions right. If you are injured tell your coach, especially if it happens at cheer. Always keep your tongue in your mouth. You will never seem to have time to do homework. I could go on forever, but I shall not.

I use hairspray to stiffen up my cheer bows just because I cheer for high school. All that you do is you spray the bow itself then put it in your hair then straighten it out then after that spray your hair and the bow mostly the back of it now then after it’s to your needs and looks (mostly just straight and not crushed up looking) then spray all of your hair 🙂🙂

Little Fun Things This is my first year in cheer and I’m loving it. I think you should stretch a lot, especially for your toe touch. Another thing to put into thought is to evaluate your size. If your shorter and thin, you’ll most likely be the flyer (like me). If you are sturdier/stronger and pretty much any height, you’ll most likely be a side base/main base. Finally, if you’re taller/ stronger you’ll most likely be a back base/back spot, and/or a main base. After you find out what you think you’ll be, you can look up KZbin videos about what each position does. Also, just saying physically active and eating/drinking healthy. I hope everything goes well!!!
