Idk why people are comparing cole to a dead man to begin with. Tupac was great but he was far from a lyrical genius. What made him so good was that he rapped with a lot of passion and emotion and he didn't always rap about fuckin bitches and gettin money or any of that shit. Imo, cole not only raps with emotion, but his songs are often pretty deep. I would definitely say he's the best of this generation

Even through the joy I feel the pain Even in the sun I feel the rain Even when I'm high I feel the lows Like that's all I know Lord knows I can't complain But even when I do it feels the same I'm getting high just to fight the lows, cuz that's all I know [Verse 1] School girl, cool girl You dressing sexy and your mama is a cougar So she let you do the grown folks thang Let you hang with them boys and they play you like a fool girl You got your new hair, it look so good You write the same niggas name in your notebook You know the same one from class, the one you let smash Now you see him 'round school and he won't look Now girl you is fine, ain't no doubt about it But why else you think he hit it and forgot about it? Its cause your mind dont match what your ass got But cheer up, you gotta be your own mascot You see you're lookin for a man like you need somebody Get your ass off of Twitter, you could be somebody! A doctor, a rock star, baby, live life! But you rather wet up all your pillows at night thinking... [Hook] That's all I know, that's all I know That's all I know, that's all I... [Bridge] Hey cheer up! Ey lil' mama, cheer up! You got your whole life to live, ey why you want tear up? Don't let them lil' boy comp... Hey, hey! [Verse 2] Yea, I wake up in the morning and I ask my self Is life worth living, should I blast myself? Don't even wanna get up out of bed I got the Glock to my head, feel I rather be dead Hey, am I hopeless? Raised with rats and roaches Never like them teachers, couldn't stand my coaches Ask whats the matter but you can't relate Living the life that you hate but you can't escape Feel like I'm stuck here, that's why I won't give the fuck here There's no luck here! No body to trust here My own mother, yeah I love her But things I heard as a child under my covers Left me with scars, it was hard to see her suffer Blocking my heart and I don't know if I'll recover I'm going under and as I'm headed to the front door She said she proud of me and I wonder what for And once more

Everyone talking about 2pac lyrics J.Cole used. This was done deliberately, Cole was not trying to hide the fact that this is 2pac lines. If he was trying to hide this fact he would not have used one of the most known set of lyrics in hip hop. This is done as homage to 2pac, a sign of respect and even admiration and if you understand this fact it makes the song more dope. Cole was not the first one to do this, Jay Z has done this a few time using famous lines of Big L and Biggie, as a sign of respect and admiration for one of the 2 new york rappers that help pave the way for him to succeed.

used to play this song everyday before school, I was depressed suicidal super anxious and resentful. 3 years later, I’ve changed so much and my biggest piece of advice to anyone going through it is take care of yourself like you’d care for someone you adore. you deserve good things you are capable of better, you got it. believe in yourself if no one else. you are more impactful than you imagine, more powerful than you realize. you are able to change your life around, just have to take it a step at a time. Be gentle with yourself too in the process🙏🏼

To all the young men out there with a cold heart just know that you have a greater purpose in life, something much more grand than just money and women. Let's be an example for this next generation. another song by j cole which has left me speechless. J cole writes true poetry and has the ability to connect with the worlds problems which is somethings most rappers are not able to do. He has something real to say about life which is worth listening too.
