This is intense. But the reason most still don't consider it a sport is honestly after high school where do you go?you can't get a scholarship for college, professional cheerleading is honestly just a step up from stripper status and it dosent help that such an emphasis is placed on looks and wardrobe .i think if the sport could tackle these issues it would go a long way.

+victoria hale you can get a cheerleading scholarship for college, it just depends on the state and school, certain states/schools don't consider comp cheer a sport.

+Malik Barber you could but if I was a parent I'd put my money on a traditional sport if scholarship is your goal( especially if you don't just want to go to some huge football school) you can play soccer at Harvard on scholarship not so much cheer

+victoria hale since the sport is so strongly rooted in the States, not a lot of people know about what you can do when you age out: I cheer in Europe and while the sport has a little bit of a different status, the level of overall skills and diversity is extremely high. I cheer on an International (Open) Level 6 Team and those do not have an age restriction. You can compete both nationwide (in your respective country) and internationally. If you look it up on the varsity website there's a lot of information on that. And of course, there's also Collegiate Cheerleading, which doesn't necessarily have an age restriction but other rather limiting restrictions :)
