i don’t know why but every time a cheerleader gets hurt they act so calm about it like they are like “ouch” but... like you just broke your wrist ???

Person well for me my coach was intense and always yelled “I don’t do tears on my field” so if we were in pain she said to take two minutes and come back if we’re not dying 😅 but yea no I feel like it’s because we know to keep going, like if ur practicing for a routine, the routine doesn’t just stop cuz you’re hurt, you have to keep going till it’s over

It's also a thing at competitions that if you get hurt, you have to keep doing the routine like nothing happened.

Okay but this is kinda true because I broke my arm doing a 360 stunt (I’m the flyer) and I didn’t even cry and I actually did the stunt again and went to the hospital AFTER practice lmao

a year or two ago this flyer on my team was trying a new stunt and ended up ripping muscles in her stomach and kept going even though it was just a *practice* !! and didn’t say anything but 2 days later she went to the hospital and was out for the season because of how bad the damage was like cheerleaders really don’t stop for anything and it low key scares me

I’m a competitive cheerleader and we get hurt much more than school cheerleaders and it is much harder but anyways the reason why we act so calm when we get hurt because we get hurt like 2 time a practice weather it it is getting hit in the nose getting healed in the eye which hurts or going to do a full setting up and coming down strait on you neck is all and we just get used to it

This adds weight to the debate that cheerleading is a sport. They compete, they throw bodies in the air, they bloody each other up...it's a complete workout.

lock heart this video adds nothing. Cheerleaders have been doing this for a loooong time. People just refuse to see it. Plus most of the girls in this are talking about drama stories that feed into the stereotypes. A lot of squads work really hard, but people don’t wanna see it.

No one told me and I didn't realize it leaked allll the way through my suit (the suit was light green) until I got home. That day I was just swimming free and breast so in warmups when I was swimming breast anyone who was behind me could see it very well And STILL no one told me aaaaaugh but luckily I could go home and never have to look them in the face til next year lol Ahh swim team... Honestly that sucks, so many girls who cheered are in those now. I think they target girls in dance or cheer because they assume they're more charismatic (sorta true I guess) and they'll have a big "network" of friends aka team mates so they're good targets for that nonsense. I know a lot of sorority girls do them too, same reasons.

eve x. I hope it was the case so we can get more strength. We dropped a flyer once partially because the flyer was not fully recovered from a broken leg at that moment, plus we received almost no training, our coach was a cheerleader’s mom, she taught nothing but silently watched and was ridiculously racist to non-white cheerleaders in the group. I have such a bad memory in cheerleader. I quitted one year later and at the same time the coach was fired.

I was a cheerleader in high school and still one in college, but I will never go out to be a professional cheerleader bc of the way they are treated. It's awful. But cheerleading is a HUGE sport to get hurt and have terrible things happen. The uniforms just get smaller in college too lol

Appears to be quite a bit more dangerous than the sports they're cheerleading for, and with a heck of a lot less protection. Granted, lifting a girl in full football gear is probably a tad on the ambitious side, I would like some Fs given for safety in regards to the uniform.

so two years ago i was on a level 2 competition team and we went to our last, biggest competition. the best team we went against had about twice the amount of girls (but was in our division for some reason). so we go and do good. better than the other teams ahead of us. this team was last and they were right after us. we watch them and one girl just runs off stage crying. the thing keeps going until they get to one stunt. then the music stops and they go off stage. later, before awards, they get to go again, but instead of the girl, they use a better girl from their level 3 team (which is illegal) and they go and do good. we’re like “eh, that won’t count because the team forfeited (which is what happens when someone runs off stage)” but we do awards. and we see them bring out the prizes (cheer bags). the other teams were announced and it was us vs the other team for 2nd and 1st. we see the first place cheer bags walked out and there are so. many. they won first. and it was very unfair. our coach called them the next year when i was on level 3 and the other team did like 10 of the same illegal trick and we were like “they can’t win that’s obviously illegal” but they won. and so the judges watched the video and said “wE DiDn’T sEe iT” and so now my gym doesn’t compete with that company anymore. (btw our prizes for those comps were puny little bows next to the unfair 1st places big bows and etc.) so... frick you victory cheer comps.

Yeah Imma call BS on that one. Never in my life have I heard of an elementary school student cheering with high schoolers. It's not a thing. There's no way a kid's dexterity is developed enough to be on the same level as someone who's nearly an adult. And how weird would it look to have one person who's like two feet shorter and obviously a child with a bunch of 16 year olds.

Here’s my horror stories: In one of our stunt groups they were doing a a dismount where the flyer does a T motion with her arms and the bases catch her on her stomach, and they weren’t together and her face went forward and hit the mat and she broke her jaw. Another one was when I was a little bit younger and we were stretching and the coach told me to come here and I had forgotten bloomers and I remember crying and everyone was starring.

I flinched so hard about the girls teeth being kicked in on accident 🥺😬 Cheerleading is such a physical sport, I hate when people claim it's not. It takes alot of work and trust to be one. Especially being thrown in the air and holding people.

Oh boy have I got so many stories. I’ve been cheering for my high school for 3 years now, and this year, we got a new sponsor. This woman has no idea what she’s doing, and used to cheer back in the 70’s, so we do everything like they did back then. The sponsor doesn’t sit down on the track with us, she sits in the bleachers with a stupid whiteboard and points frantically at the damn thing every times she wants us to do something. And almost every time, it’s the wrong thing. Then her husband tells her we screwed up (because of her whiteboard) and she yells at us to “pay attention to the game” and by that, she actually means “obey the holy whiteboard, it’s word is law, and if it says the wrong thing, that’s your fault” God, that woman is so stupid🤬😡and I’ve heard our poor captains have it so much worse

My absolute worst cheer story was in middle school trying ground ups to heel stretch. I was second base at the time and my top kicked too soon and kicked full force into my mouth. I had braces at the time and I had to pick my skin from my braces. The following week I was due to have my braces removed and I had a two inch long ulcer from the injury while the orthodontist pried in my mouth for hours. Just terrible. I also rolled my ankle the night before leaving for Nationals and sprained it SO bad, but I still competed. My couch had it wrapped super well, I sat in ice water when I wasn't practicing, I had to be wheelchaired around to reduce any strain on it. Then during prelims my friend accidentally tripped me on my bad ankle and I almost screamed but held it together until we got off stage. I broke down in full on sobs and my coach carried me to the stands. Later that day I still competed in finals and we did pretty well, but I had to explore the Disney parks in a wheelchair!

I’m a cheerleader and we did this thing at half time when my BF was on the fb team and me and this other girl had to do a Ariel then a triple back handspring tuck and a back flip well I did it all and was happy but when I landed my back flip I heard my ankle crack but I didn’t think anything of it so I kept cheering for 1 hour until the game was over at this point my ankle was bruised and swollen and stuff well I was going home with my bf and his younger brother was like sis ( me and my bf have been dating since 6th grade we graduated 3 years ago so his brother calls me his sister) you need to go to the hospital it looks broke I was like nah I’ll be ok and my bf was like no we need to go so we did turns out it was fractured pretty bad... they don’t know how I kept cheering but it’s a passion of mine so I toughed it out.. it hurt pretty bad though ngl... if you are a cheerleader and you fall during a game or something please please please tell your coach if it hurts or you can really hurt yourself luckily I didn’t

i cheered for 13 years, the horror story that sticks with me was during my sophomore year of high school. my older sister and i were on the competition team and my sister’s stunt group was practicing twist cradles out of scorpions. as the flyer begins her twist she kept her elbows out and elbowed my sister (being the main base) in the temple. blood was everywhere but luckily our coach was also an EMT so he had all the right supplies. my sister coaches now and to this day is so adamant about telling her flyers to twist cleanly lol

My sister has been a cheerleader for I think 2 years? So one time I was watching her routine at the school in front of the entire school and they do one of those flip things where they're like in a pyramid and the top person flips off. The girl at the top goes to do the flip and lands on her feet but both of them go sideways at the same time and talking to my sister afterwards she said that she could hear the crack. The girl continues doing the rest of the routine and only goes to the doctor after the game. She broke both her ankles.
