As Vera, we only heard her voice in a few episodes. Birkett appeared in a Season Two episode as a woman who meets Cliff at the masquerade ball held at Cheers.

I LOVED DIANE she was gorgeous and a perfect match for Sam, perfect. I did not like Kristy at all she was either, hollering, crying, pissing and moaning or acting like a spoiled child. To me Kristy was obnoxious. Diane brought spark, excitement, charm, intelligence, fun, up lifting banter that was so missed after she left. Diane brought pizzazz punctuated with a spirit and zest for life. The show was never the same when Kristy Alley came. Yes the zipper segment was funny but again it would have been hilarious with Diane. I do not see Diane in the reunion segments. Their seemed to be a dislike for her by one of the cast members after Diane left the show. My obvious guess is that it was jealously. We all wanted Diane and Sam to make it So sad that she left the show.

I think you may be over-hyping Diane a bit. Though her personality gave for some good banter sometimes; she wasn't fun and she wasn't exciting. Rebecca was obnoxious, yes, but that's why she was a good alternative and in my opinion the better character. She felt more like a challenging character for Sam to square off with because really they were both very similar compared to Diane and Sam who are never anything alike. As for Diane's change in the reunions and why she's acting different. It's called character development. And as a side note though I think Shelly did fine with Diane's character I would argue Frasier did way better with her character archetype given he was the male alternative of said archetype and that's the reason Shelly wanted him written off the show.
