That's the Kenworth conventional cab & hood from the Tyrone Malone Bandag Bandit race truck, and, those long frame rails are from its matching transporter, the "Hide Out" truck, a Cabover Aerodyne kit...
BOTH kits are molded in dark blue plastic, and I'm thinking of building this combination as a "NAKED MODEL" build! Because both kits are the same color plastic.
There's been other old farts in the model builders community who have done 'group builds' on the theme of Naked Models, meaning: No Paint... Just the Molded-in-color. I thought it would be interesting to do a 'KIT-BASH" naked model at the same time....... because like,,,, you know, that's like all i do is kit bashes 😁
But, instead of using the V8 Detroit Diesel from the Cabover, (because I had already pilfered the V12 racing engine for a different truck) all i have with me, cause you know, I'm living in my van (for the winter again for the 4 th year now) is a handful of kits i grabbed from my camper when I went out to check on it this weekend; the only other diesel truck engines I have is the one in the White Western Star conventional i grabbed just for parts - it has a 350 straight 6 Cummins in it, and it's molded in the comen white plastic. It's a good solid color white though, (not a hollow or almost transparent mix!) so it would be purfect because those things were usually painted white back then! So again, making it a great choice for a Naked Model Build!!! Dark Blue with a White engine?
And get this,,, if i use the chrome wheels from the Cabover transporter truck on the DODGE L700 TRANSPORTER I'm kit-bashing with the bed, then I would need wheels.... In my limited selection, I have this Dodge L700 truck AND tanker trailer right??? Well, the cab is only a single axle, BUT HOLD ON!,,, that trailer has the same wheels! Plenty enough to put a full set on this naked Kenworth conventional! Those Dodge parts are all molded in a Rooster RED ! ! !
That would be kinda cool wouldn't it?
Dark Blue with Red wheels and white engine?
The tires from either the Cabover and Dodge are the same diameter to and interchangeable. So the taller white lettered tires from the bandag bandit cabover would look cool on the red wheels and blue conventional tractor no?
