My daughter bought a steeplechaser when he retired at 14. He was also the first horse I placed a bet on in Cartmel. He was 5 years old, No. 13, 8/1 and a steel grey called Buchannan (USA). He won (much to the annoyance of my ex who was a gambler and didnt win a thing that day). Beau was 28 when he died, even surviving a terrible accident in the field at 18 which left him blind in one eye. His longevity was due to my daughters total dedication to him

@@HorseRacingLegends Not just for how great he already was but how much more he could have achieved as GC favourite .I saw many hardened racegoers shed tears that day

Yes I remember they say him being dragged off the Course with chains.Very upsetting.

My favourite horse ever was Killiney. 2nd favourite Golden Cygnet. Future superstars if they had not been tragically killed. Trip down memory lane. Thank you.

I can remember watching Flyingbolt winning over hurdles and chases in the mid-1960s , and there is no doubt about it, along with his stable companion Arkle, he was one of the all-time greats. He was certainly the best two-mile chaser I've ever seen.

Yes, Alastair Down was absolutely correct when he rightly slated the BBC and ITV for destroying so much of television's horse racing history. Unforgivable!

All I'll say is ,if GOLDEN CYGNET hadn't fallen when he first ran against the hurdling greats of the mid to late 70s early 80s ,like SEA PIGEON and NIGHT NURSE,he'd have been the one we all rave about!!!!!
