You should have pushed the pressing charges issue much more. In Texas that's 2 felonies and it's mandatory arrest. It's guaranteed that the assault and destruction of property wasn't pressed or else the guy would be in cuffs by law. That's why the cop said a "Detective will PROBABLY call you". Because he won't and when you call they will say they don't see anything about it. Go to the local magistrate immediately and file charges after doing an open record request for the police report for the guy that did it's name. If you want help on the matter let me know.

When someone puts their hands on you or breaks your property, you need to make it clear to the police that you want to do a PPA (Private Persons Arrest) on him otherwise they won’t follow through with anything.
