Junna is an amazing drummer, there just seems to be something in the water in Japan, lol. Another very interesting Japanese drummer is Yoyoka Soma, a 13 year old young lady who has a huge amount of untapped potential. Coming from a musical family, she started playing drums at two years old, and there's a number of those old videos on her KZbin channel. She started her own KZbin channel at the age of five and has been doing covers of many rock classics on drums. She also gave tutorials on playing the drums for other young people who wanted to learn. She put out her first CD at six or seven years old. She's a true prodigy, as she doesn't read music, but learns by ear and can reproduce almost exactly, with some of her own flourishes, in two days. She has sat in with Fall Out Boy and Onyx played drums with Cindy Lauper's band when they were on tour in Japan. She also composes (so I guess she can read music now) and produces her own videos. She won the "Hit Like A Girl" contest at NAMM in Los Angeles at age eight, topping Senri Yamaguchi's record for youngest winner. She has also had a good relationship with Carmine Appice, of Vanilla Fudge and Beck, Bogert and Appice. For her 12th birthday, she enlisted some of the best session musicians and singers in Japan to do her recording sessions and cover some of the greatest rock songs from Van Halen, Deep Purple, Joe Satriani. You should check them out. Li-sa-X also participated in the sessions. Yoyoka and some of her young friends did a great cover of Janis Joplin's Move Over. with the oldest member being 13. Watching her play makes me think that Akane Hirose was the same way when she was that age.

She is older than you would think. She is now in her mid 20's as far as I know (the ages Pilko T. put sound about right from what I have heard before). But that doesn't really matter in the end. I always enjoy watching her play and it was cool to see her play with Gasshan/Ichinose. While she did clearly not hold back in most parts, she managed to not overshadow the rest of the band most of the time which was a "problem" she unconsciously had in the past.

the thing that amazes me about her is for her size and build the amount of stamina she has is mind blowing even in her 20's to be that fit.. what a cardio workout.. and as you can see she isnt just tapping the skins she is really smashing them hard. the runs and fills she dose are just perfect.

Herman Li mentioned how people are able to take the tracks for this and isolate out certain parts. The tracks are coming from Guitar Hero, so the tracks can be pulled from there instead of from any masters that the band has. They were pulled and the drums isolated out of the track so she or anyone else can play along with it. This is how Tina S was also able to post a cover for TTFAF, but with the guitar tracks isolated, so she can play it.

Painkiller is one of my favourite Judas Priest songs, and I am always impressed (and a bit envious) of anyone who can master double kick drumming. I tried to learn how to play drums years ago and very quickly learned I have zero coordination, my efforts sounded like someone pushing a drumkit down the stairs 😄

In my opinion Junna is one of the best todays drummers. When recording this cover she was in her early 20th (23?); now she is the drummer of the band Hagane. She always drums in such an enthusiastic way and you can see that she really loves what she is doing. Watching her drum I suddenly have the song "Maniac" of Michael Sembello (from Flashdance) in mind, don't know why...

True, you recently reviewed Trident....I would recommend listening to Trident - Voltage... she stayed with the band until they got a replacement. Truthfully Junna's style is harder rock and not punk that Trident was moving towards. She is considered a freelance drummer now but does alot with the ex Metallica guitar player

Junna is how I discovered Lovebites. I saw this video, then some others of hers, then found out she was the drummer from an allgirl rock band (now called Trident). I saw some of their stuff, but wasn't that impressed. Junna was clearly the best thing about them. But that led me to discover there was a good number of Japanese bands, including Lovebites, Unlucky Morpheus, Bridear, and others.
