They did dominate our midfield, in the sense that they played right through it often enough. It's not really the fault of the players, the way I see it. It's just that if we're so focused on trying to do something with a high press then we're necessarily off balance when City plays through the press and starts moving with a purpose. We should just do enough press to delay and then get back into a compact defensive shape. But that would be cynical, negative football. We had 250 million pounds worth of midfield on the pitch and it didn't keep City from creating chances and it didn't really help our ability to create or convert chances either. That's not good. Also, I don't think we necessarily need to play creative wingers with the players we have, but if we want to play a winger-based system where breakthroughs happen out wide then we absolutely cannot play Nkunku and Palmer as those wingers. That aside, I do agree with points 5 and 7.

You know who could have been a big help to us today? Connor fucking Gallagher. We had absolutely no press in midfield at all, city just passed and even walked straight through it. Dewsbury hall is trash I’ve been saying it I will keep saying it he is NOT a prem player he is however a complete waste of 35 million. Maresca ball is possession based? We use Palmer and Nkunku out of position and there's any surprise they were kind of meh? We use Enzo as a number 10 and there's any surprise it made us worse? The reality is, while Nkunku and Palmer absolutely can create chances for others, it doesn't make much sense for them to do that when those two players are by some distance the best finishers in the team. They were bad but it's not their fault. You try to use a Ferrari as an offroad vehicle, you shouldn't blame the car that you're getting stuck. We subbed on Neto, that was great, except for one detail: Who is he meant to create chances for? There was one chance finisher on the pitch at that point and he wasn't getting into the box to receive passes. How could anyone have expected that to work? What absurd logic leads to the conclusion that Neto can make any difference when he's a chance creator and the team doesn't have anyone who could realistically be at the end of those chances and actually convert? And pushing out Carney to buy Felix is just dumb. Pushing out Carney to buy KDH doesn't strike me as all too bright either. But we have owners that don't make decisions based on sporting merit, and we have creators that don't want to be in any way critical to the owners, hence this present narrative that if only we get Felix then this nonsense will suddenly work. Wasn't that what creator space were saying about KDH, though? I feel like I've written comments about this since Maresca was appointed. We must build around making Nkunku and Palmer as good as they can be. They can lift us into top 4. Sacrificing them to make Fernandez or Felix or KDH or other such players look half-decent is not a good trade and it won't take us anywhere. Not building around those two is utter stupidity and while I was uplifted by the Inter game and the pragmatism demonstrated, I have to say that the City game does not lift my spirits a whole lot.

The main goal of the team should be not to concede easy goals and to create spaces and chances for these 2 players to play with more freedom and use their skills to entertain, perform & do the job upfront even with a Nico Jackson playing.. sorry, Enzo isn't great with the ball either...he gives away the ball at the slightest nudge/pressure...I understand some fans simply love certain players unconditionally & vice versa but Enzo will have a tough time in PL if he continues like this.
