Welcome to our Spotlight Sessions, a series dedicated to conversations with change-makers and people that have made an impact on the community of people with disabilities.
In this episode, we had the opportunity to speak with Chelsea Elder, Executive Director of Adaptive Adventures. Adaptive Adventures provides outdoor sports opportunities to improve quality of life for children, adults and veterans with physical disabilities and their families. Due to Chelsea's brother's physical disability and her father's status as a disabled veteran, she has always felt connected to this cause. She has been with the organization as a volunteer since 2010, and an Executive Director since 2017. To date, they have helped more than 100,000 people establish independence, overcome trauma, and find purpose in life.
Chelsea Elder shared her thoughts on the following topics:
1. The history of Adaptive Adventures and where it is today.
2. How and why adaptive sports can improve people’s quality of life.
3. A deeper dive into their programs and what's most popular amongst participants.
4. The hope of expanding their equipment and utilize cutting edge technology, such as voice activation.
5. An important message about why businesses should accommodate people with disabilities.
