Jeff T he actually isn't original. He joined before the recording of Desolation of Eden. This is basically a glorified cover band. As far as bass following guitar in metal, a good metal bassist knows when to follow the guitar, and when to do something totally different. Iron Maiden, Obscura, Megadeth, Beyond Creation, etc.
