So much Babayaro hate. It's a tad ungrateful really; he wasn't bad for most of his Chelsea career. Defending was above average and he was one of the best attacking left-backs in England at a time when that style of play was still unfashionable and few sides could do competently. He just wasn't the player to take them to the next level, but that's no crime after eight years and three trophies including the last ever Cup Winners' Cup. He was mostly terrible at Newcastle, but judging his Chelsea career on what happened after he left isn't really fair. Indeed if we're going to consider his career away from Chelsea, then it's just as worth mentioning he has an Olympic gold medal with Nigeria and was one of the best players in that tournament.

Jamees Woodhouse they were never top 4 prior to this for almost half a decade (4 years to be exact). After the take over they were always contenders. Before that they used to play League Cup finals or sometimes get knocked out with their first team like Southampton and West Ham but since the takeover they have won the FA Cup, UCL, EPL and they usually would not give a shit bout the League Cup. Needless to say they were always in the UEFA cup the equivalent of the Europa League today and they were decent there although they did make the UCL once after winning the UEFA Cup, they didn't make it out of group stage. After the takeover everything changed.

We had world class players like Zola, Hasselbaink, Desailly, Lampard and Terry and won multiple trophies, including a Cup winner's Cup, an Uefa Super Cup, 2 FA Cups and an EFL Cup in the 90s. When Ruud Gullit arrived at Chelsea the trophy successes began with him and then Gianluca Vialli both as player manager. In 2003, when Abramovich bought the club, they were already in the Champions League again (they had reached the quarter finals three years earlier due to finishing 4 points behind the treble winning man u team in 1999), So I wouldn't say Chelsea were shit.
