Great days in the shed. What a team we had. Just loved recalling those days with the muddy pitches and hard tackling. Not sure many of the players of today could have handled it.

This was my first game, shortly after my seventh birthday. I assume my father chose Chelsea because it was nearer to home, because he was an armchair Arsenal supporter. A few days before he asked he who I would support. Well it was obvious wasn't it? Chelsea were the glamour team of the day, they were already in the FA Cup final, all my friends supported them. 'Tottenham,' said I. We lost, of course, and I've been stuck with them ever since.

I was about two months old when this game was played. I really enjoy the hard, generally fair, tackling common in this era. Even flair players like Osgood and Gilzean didn't shirk a tackle.

I adore the British game of yore, always seeing the ball going forward and into the opposition's half, instead of the other way around in today's football, where the back and lateral passes lull the viewer.

My first match as well. Age 12. I was a Chelsea supporter as a border at school but became a day boy so was free to enjoy time with dad. Travelled from Canterbury. Stood in tube train by Richard Attenborough. We both wanted to see Jimmy Greaves play, however Neither my dad or I had cottened on that he had moved on and swapped with Peters at Tottenham until we got to the match. Also, I have the programme but I’ve been scratching my head for years as I recall Baldwin scoring and Birchenall playing. Now I see that they were obviously late choices for the match due to injuries. We were in old East stand under the camera gantry so this film is as I remember it. Brilliant. Going to see Chelsea first time since 1983 this weekend. Long way from West Wales where I have worked. Everything is Blue!

Exactly and there was a great pool of them in those days. And now? I gave up going to see Arsenal as i started to not even be able to pronounce the player's name's half the time.. Once they started to invite more than two foreign players into a team then the league was lost of me.

Duckjive, I was at this game. It was April 1970, Martin Peters joined us in March '70 with the Legend going the other way. The Bridge was never a happy hunting ground for us apart from the very odd one to savour, like the one in November '70 in the biblical rain 🤣 Great find though all the same, keep up the great work.

Around the 20.30 mark, a couple of tackles go in against Osgood (maybe two yellow cards in today's game) - he doesn't even blink, but he does get really upset when the throw is given against him. Can't see that happening in the modern game.

spurs finished 11th that season, and went out of the cups early on. imagine that now? bill nick would have been out the door double quick. things were different then - fans and owners had a much better long term perspective on things. tonite weve gone to everton and got a point, are two points off 5th and have a cup final next weekend - but to listen to a lot of our 'fans' and the media tonite you'd think our season has been a disaster.

Tavy@ that was a great game with so much skill and fast moving up and down the park. When men were men. And when they got injured they didnt want to get treated they just wanted to get up and get on with it. Did you notice how many times they touched each other as if to say sorry mate a went in a bit late there. And the other guy just knew he was geniune. I can remember when games were played in this way, i played in them but only at amature level, but there was so many great players playing amature that were better than proffesionals and had the same style, as in they would stop to see if you were ok. Now its 4 paramedics, 2 drs, and 4 xrays done while there still sitting on the grass, or carpet. They wouldnt last in 1970 with these two teams. They wouldnt have time for pansys in 1970 at stamford bridge. If they kept going down then the team would put them off the park for a few weeks for taking the piss. Ron harris would just sort them out and they would shite it. But then again you wouldnt have players like that back then, they would never make it that far in the game and trials.

Goalies just thumping it up the field, probably seen as very primitive now compared to the cagey playing it out from the back possession style of today but made for a far more open game, the days when goal celebrations were brief and every tackle didn't require medical treatment

A lot of clubs sang bubbles back then, slightly different words than Wext hams version today. You'll never walk alone was also sung by every English club back then ttoo. Eventually West ham and Liverpool claimed them as club anthems.
