Fancy Shawl VLOGTORIAL| New method for fringing shawls?

I demonstrate how I made my fancy shawl and tested a hack for applying ribbon.
I will not be demonstrating how to make a cape because I already have one, but I do hope to cover that in the future. I will share the process of making the dress in my weekly vlog series.

😊 learning how to make these, because my daughter asked me for one, I will suggest that when you are fold, and sewing the "pocket" for the elastic, if you lay a piece of string in there and make the closer, you can tie the end to the safety pin, and just pull the elastic through. 😊😁💯☀️🥰

So beautiful! Thank you for sharing 💕 Sometimes shortcuts just aren't shortcuts lol. I've done a similar sort of fringe, and I ended up just shoving shit under the presser foot as I went. (I'm not Native, so not on any sort of regalia, just a scarecrow costume for Halloween. Fun fact: 'natural' colored 1/4" cotton twill tape fringe looks a lot like straw, especially from a distance)

Oh my God, I just saw you at my tribes powwow yesterday. That’s so crazy. I was like she has really cool beadwork. I should’ve gone up and said hi but I’m seeing the video just now lol. Does the bias tape go all the way around the shawl?

Can I add appliqué after everything ( like can I just hem the sides add the ribbon, and then add appliqué later when I can ) ? Or does it have to be before. Because at the moment I have my materials for the shawl itself and all ribbons. I’m just excited to use it for when I’m practicing(: Also the appliqué I plan on adding is very simple

My dream is to one day hopefully powwow dance fancy shawl, and i'm trying to work my way up to that in the most respectful way I can. I would like to make regalia that it meant for me and my tribe, find out what parts of the fancy shawl regalia i'm allowed to wear, learn the songs, learn the dance, and connect to the community.
