I love your Christmas cakes. It gets me in the mood for holding baking. What kind of cake did you use for the gingerbread house? Also for the door, chimney and shingles on the windows that you added to the house, did you use fondant or other items that you decorated with red buttercream frosting?

of course! i use the americolor super red gel food coloring, and I make the frosting a few days in advance to allow the shade to deepen :)

I've had issues with red buttercream as well, but not so much on color as with bitter aftertaste. Does your recommended brand counter this issue as well ? Thanks!
