Firetruck 81 responds to dangerous gas leak with canisters close to exploding. The team manage to save the day just in time.

Later on, Patterson sets new rules for the house that makes everyone uncomfortable, especially Chili and Borelli. Meanwhile, Severide continues to help strengthen Boden's case. Also, Dawson receives heat at a previous call when she had an outburst at a citizen and was recorded.

Maybe not all the houses would be completely flattened, but it would be enough to do serious damage, and the amount of injuries would have been horrendous from broken glass and other shrapnel. Also depending on how loud the explosion was hearing damage would have occurred too.

Nice piece of detail there at the beginning, he gave information on the potential danger of the cargo. Though in reality, he would have shown them the safety documentation assosiated with the payload, as then they can better take precautions in order to minimize the danger. I can't stress how important that is. But I also feel the need to question something: he said there was enough liquid hydrogen to knock down the neighbourhood. In other words, a lot of power. When it eventually blew up, those firefighters weren't really that far away from the blast. You even see the shockwave and smoke pass over them. Yet they're unharmed. Now injuries from the shockwave, no shrapnel, nothing. In fact, it seems a lot of other things nearby were also unharmed. From what I could gather (though It might be the wrong amount), theres maybe 1950 litres of gas in that tank. That should make for a decent explosion. Wouldn't that mean this bomb pretty much, would have a big danger radius? then add the shrapnel from it because there's almost always shrapnel. What I'm asking is, does the calculations add up? Were they safe, or should they either have sustained injuries or even death? Because it feels like they got plot armor

It's inaccurate, too. Naturally, you don't want to puncture pressurized gas containers, but it actually cools as it goes from high to low pressure. That's why you see ice around the breach. The real danger is the released hydrogen reaching an ignition source, or the container suddenly rupturing.

@@johnmadden9613 The real inaccuracy here is that you can't keep liquid hydrogen in a pressurized container because it WILL explode. Not in a fireball sort of way, but more like "you put too much pressure in this tank" sort of way. (That stuff is at 33 K, unless you surround it in liquid nitrogen it's always going to heat up and increase the pressure.) There must be a bleed valve. Secondly, no way in hell they'd ever be transporting it like that, or in that quantity. Fourthly, the guy who went into the truck is dead from lack of oxygen. Enclosed space + non oxygen gas filling that space = suffocation. The real procedure here would have been to move everybody away and let the tank bleed out. It wouldn't have exploded, it simply would have let all the hydrogen out which, contrary to popular belief, does NOT explode on contact with the air. Source: I worked with pure hydrogen. Also the kinetics between hydrogen and oxygen are very slow, so although the thermodynamics says the reaction is VERY exothermic, kinetics says that it occurs very slowly in the absence of a catalyst (like a spark).
