this was so exciting to see my fibre getting dyed! i love what you dyed so much. I havent spun it yet but i know its going to make a gorgeous yarn

Gorgeous results!!!! I shy away from dying roving for all the reasons you discussed 🥺

This is why I try to show all of the washing etc to show that it turns out beautiful despite my hesistations. :D

One variation you could try is carded sliver from R.H. Lindsay. I have used a bunch of their Cheviot for a couple of projects recently. It comes in a somewhat thinner strip than most of the roving I've gotten from other places, which makes it easier to get good color penetration to the middle of the strip, and easier to rinse as well. I was going for closer to semi-solid and I was blending with another fiber type before spinning. But I think the thinner strips could also help with getting shorter color changes in the spun yarn without needing to split the roving as well.

The pasta insert resist is so funny, but it's great for roving because that will spin out really nicely. It is surprising how pale and deep some of the areas are, but that makes sense because there was so little movement. I hope the lab partner that gets this roving shares the spun result in the facebook group!

Possibly lasagna fiber dyeing, like you did with the different colors on each layer?
@ChemKnitsTutorials8 ай бұрын
OOooooo! That would be a lot of fun. My one concern is that I do massage the yarn a lot during lasagna so I'll have to think about how to do that without agitating unspun fiber too much

The use of the pasta insert was inspired. Have you tried using one of those nylon mesh bags? It might spin dry without having to remove roving from the bag. I dunno, it seems like it might be a good idea. The fiber was lovely and I love your channel.

I haven't used one of those for fiber before. The spin dryer normally doesn't damage the fiber or split it unless I load it in a silly way.

At first, I thought that you would add the cherry bomb colour on the top. Awesome roving!

That is something I'd like to do, too!

I want to try this with black and either purple or teal... or maybe a triple dye with black, blue and green. And you could start with it crocheted and then undo in between the black and red so you'd get more resist spaces...

Love the use of the pasta insert!! I have to recreate a yarn mop on 10 skeins of yarn. It was swished through the water of three different colours to remove excess dye. The pasta insert will definitely be the go!!

Can I ask how you lay out the fiber to dry? I love that you used the pasta insert to remove and add the fiber. What a great idea.

The unspun fiber or the yarn in this video? I have an ikea drying rack that has many horizontal rungs. I lay the fiber across 4-5 rungs and let it dry that way. It isn't hanging very much, it is more flat (think like cookies on a cooling rack)

Sorry for the question at the beginning of the comment. KZbin gave me a thumbnail for a differnet video even though the title is correct here. I realized it after I got another roving comment on anotehr thumbnail. So strange!

@@ChemKnitsTutorials Thank you. I want to start play with dyeing fiber, but I never see anyone showing how the fiber gets laid out when it comes out of the spinner. I will try this! Again, thank you and I love your videos!

Here’s a funny for you. I recently made an order because I just now am learning to spend. And I was trying to find the episode it was on this was on Saturday. This is the episode. I need to see lol

Rebeca have you done any experiments to compare the resulting colour if you swap the order of the two colours?
