hello sir, just here to let u know how grateful i am to u.🖤 thanks to u, i passed my o'level chemistry with an A* at 98%. I could never actually afford a chem teacher or coaching, so it was just u and ur lecture videos that helped me throughout my journey. You are a lifesaver. Words are not enough to show my gratitude, thank u so so so so so so so much❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

@@ChemLectures sir I wanted to ask you that I am currently scoring marks in 60s in p2 of gcse. And I want to improve but each time a practice a different question paper, I get the same marks so what should I really do to get marks more than that? like marks in 70s/75. I know that would be dumb to many others but that is my top most priority to get better in chemistry. So any tips to improve?

Hi Sir, I've watched 90% of all the videos in the lecture series and I really find them extremely helpful. I have my Chemistry Prelims coming up this Friday and i've never felt so prepared for any chemistry exam since last year! However there are also some questions i would like to clarify. When a question asks for the repeat unit of polyethene for instance, do we have to write it as - (C2H4) -n or just - (C2H4) - ? because according to my textbook this year it shows that - (C2H4) -n is actually the structure of polyethene and - (C2H4) - is the repeat unit but it says otherwise in the video. (4:51) Also, i would like to ask how u got the value (2n-1) for the number of moles of water for condensation polymerisation of nylon at 8:20. Once again thank you for all the help!
@ChemLectures6 жыл бұрын
both are ok. just go with the one in your textbook in case the mark scheme set does not accept other forms; as for the 2n-1, its because if you observe, 2 molecules come together and only lose 1 molecule as water. if 3 comes together, they will lose 2 molecules as water (2 bonds are formed). if 4 comes together, they will lose 3 (3 bonds are formed), and so and so forth. So 2n-1 number of moles of water.

This is the best set of videos I have come across! Thank you for the effort! Can I ask, when we draw a structure of the repeating unit, do we have to write subscript " n" after drawing in the brackets? Or no need?
@ChemLectures9 жыл бұрын
+Dark Purple yes you need
@darkpurple32839 жыл бұрын
ok so actually, if they ask me to draw the polymer formed is it the same as asking me to draw a repeating unit? I thought must put n if showing the polymer and no need to put n if showing the repeating unit. Thanks!
@ChemLectures9 жыл бұрын
+Dark Purple to draw the polymer, you can draw 3 repeating units, then end the two sides with squiggly lines. normally you draw horizontal lines, then put the bracket and n. there are different ways of answering the polymer qn, but so long as you do not draw the monomer structure, you will be fine. the drawing for repeating unit and polymer is sometimes used interchangeably, i.e., with the brackets and n. BUT NOT THE MONOMER DRAWING.

There isnt a specific video for this because many equations are slowly introduced in each chapter. You may want to look at mole concept, acid bases and salts, ionic equations misconceptions for more info.

What is the mass of polymer formed from 100g of this polymer: CH3-CH(OH)-COOH ? The answer is supposed to be 80g but I calculated 70g. Any views?
@ChemLectures9 жыл бұрын
+Dark Purple did you consider the water molecules that would be lost when the hydroxyl groups and carboxylic acid groups react to form the ester bond? write the general equation out to show how many water molecules are lost per 2 monomers reacting. then work from here.

Sir, why is it not a carbohydrate at 10:40? It does have carbon, hydrogen and oxygen only.
@ChemLectures7 жыл бұрын
because the question has alr said perspex. and most of the carbohydrates are very simple structures, e.g., repeating glucose units etc.

what is the difference betweeen condensation and addition polymrisation
@ChemLectures7 жыл бұрын
this is covered in both the notes and videos.
@ibraheembaloch97727 жыл бұрын
i mean that if water is removed then it is condensation and if not then it is addition polymerization?
@ChemLectures7 жыл бұрын
addition polymerisation by its name means to add, So nothing is lost during the process. condensation polymerisation means to join monomers together with the loss of a small molecule per 2 monomer units. This small molecule can be water, HCl, etc etc.

hi is it still true that polymers are mixtures? arent polymers monomers bonded by chemical reactions?
@ChemLectures6 жыл бұрын
yes. because a polymerisation reaction doesn't go to completion. there will be polymers of varying lengths, a various stages of polymerisation etc.
@heroman15968 жыл бұрын
can you tell me what is the diffrence between macromolecule and polymer.
@ChemLectures8 жыл бұрын
+Hero Man a polymer is a macromolecule. but a macromolecule may not be a polymer. e.g., diamond is a macromolecule, formed by carbon atoms covalently bonded to each other in a tetrahedral arrangement. A macromolecule is a very large molecule, hence the prefix macro. A polymer is made of repeated molecules held together by (covalent) bonds to form a long chain.
