Paint Vehicle Rims at Home for 20$

Keep in mind when changing tires if the mechanics are trash they'll scratch the rims along the edges.

Here's a report of how the paint is holding up:
July 2019 - Looks new
March 2020 - After a harsh winter the edges of the rims where the mechanics chipped have chipped a little more, I will touch it up with paint and a clear coat to prevent further damage, other than that the rims still retained their deep shine.
November 2020 - Looks the same as march 2020, still shiny and clean, no scratches or chips.
March 2021 - Although there aren't any NEW scratches or chips, the chips that where created by the
mechanics when they put the tire on the rim have grown slightly, so make sure the mechanics don't chip the paint and you should be good. So it seems curbing your rims will probably ruin the paint because the paint will continue to chip off over time around the area you scratched.
December 2022 - Same deal as before, the paint is holding up but if there is a chip it will get bigger. Ensure there are no chips in the paint before you install your tires.

You probably should use an etcher on the aluminum before you use the primer. The etcher will allow the primer to hold better on metal. I just did my mailbox like this, etcher, primer, then paint. I used several coats of primer, not thick just like you did, then several coats of paint. The problem with this is that if the rim flexes due to stress it will most likely crack the paint over time.

I tryed to do it at home, just i buy an spray and fill him with black paint. then i just painted the 4 rims. and i apply 3 capes from color not get erased. and lastly when it dry. i let it dry. just color keeped and do some test. yes and that work.

when I painted my rims on my SUV I wash them really good sanded down all scrapes and scratches, clean them again with alcohol, then spray them 3 coats Rust-Oleum black primer, once dry. spray them 3 coats of Rust -Oleum truck bed coating, finish the job spraying 3 coats of Rust-Oleum clear. a year later still looking good, no pilling or paint fading. When people ask me if they're powder coated, they don't believe when I tell them that I painted them myself for less then $100 bucks.

atm I have the 2004 maxima and I am replacing the timing chains and waterpump. it was fast before and I hope to have it the same as it was, I bought it from a salvage yard for $750.00 years ago and have sine replaced many front end parts to gas filler and bearings of course, lower controls and I have it all sanded and ready for paint.
