Oh my gosh, this helped me so much. I was able to build my chair conformation but I didn't exactly know what a chair flip was. This is so simple and easy to understand. Thank you for posting!

@@user-eo1tw9ly8q With a model kit, set it up the same way he did, all red axial and all white equatorial. Then individually rotate each ring carbon so that the red becomes equatorial and the white becomes axial. Chair flips are just switching between axial and equatorial. You will notice that the direction (up or down) will always stay the same. For example, if a group was axial up, a chair flip will make it will equatorial up.

It was such a bizarre thing to understand when i had my lecture on cyclohexane, couldnt just fathom the concept with what is on the paper, until i saw the 3D model and got to flip the positions myself. This is such a good video, good revision for me to visualize the process again

Thanks for the help! I had a hard time trying to picture what I was supposed to be accomplishing with my model, but our professor kept asserting that we needed to use one to strengthen our understanding of the required concepts. It was a little weird doing it with a molymod kit, but it can be done.

@ChemSurvival11 жыл бұрын
Search "Molecular Visions" on Google or Amazon and you will find many options!
@ChemSurvival11 жыл бұрын
Just be sure that you order a kit with at least six white and six red atoms, and you should be able to re-create the models in the video. There are some less expensive kits created by third parties which don't have enough atoms. I recommend the one in the nifty green carrying case. www.molecularvisions.com/Molecular-Model-Kits/Kit-1-ISBN-978-09648837-1-0-Organic-Inorganic-Organomet/prod_2.html
