I believe he got famous and popular with Zhao Liying. When they split, his popularity slowly went down, which most probably his popularity depends just on Zhao Liying. Maybe, it is true he is a great actor, but your popularity will also be depending on your character. The way I see it, the manner, circumstances and the the split was handled, the majority gave the fault to him. I am not sorry, I like Zhao Liying who has been proven to be low key, with kind heart, and hard working.
