I love how they did this scene. Jiang Cheng was finally able to let out his frustrations, all the insecurities he held against Wei Ying. All the things he wanted to say years ago. The cause of him being emotionally constipated all the dang time, and he can finally let it all out! The way Wei Ying wipes the tear from Jiang Cheng’s eyes is so painfully satisfying because FINALLY! Finally, there is a glimmer of hope for reconciliation. Wang Zhoucheng acted this scene out so well, kudos to him for making this one of my favorite moments of the show! It’s hard to believe that this is one of his first acting gigs! And he performed so well, you could never tell🥺

Jiang Cheng was always jealous of Wei Ying because he always knew Wei Ying was better. He resented him for it. And Wei Ying giving up his core for Jiang Cheng proved it. That's why he was so pissed when Ning told the truth of what happened and did it in front of Lan Zhan,. A witness to how much better Wei Ying was than Jiang Cheng. I don't feel the least bit sorry for him. He's a disgrace.

I think that rather than disgust, I feel more pity for him. He has a rather awful inferiority complex concerning Wei Ying, compounded by the fact that he was emotional abused (yes he was) by the parents and has never felt that he's had the opportunity to prove any form of superiority otherwise. Every form of triumph that he's earned could be argued to have been given to him, whether it be his inheritance or his cultivation. He might know that Wei Wuxian is not at fault for the majority of his trauma, but he's been conditioned to instinctly blame it on him. It is right? No. The ability to suffer never grants everyone the right to inflict it. But understanding someone's suffering puts us closer to healing it. I do hope in the future, Jiang Cheng will find someone who judged JC for himself and can guide him out to the self-hatred and anger he allows himself to wallow in.

He had been trying to go back earlier, still sad from loss of his home and parent's death etc. However Wei's decision was taken with more self awareness and stronger resolve and clarity of thought. He fully understood the consequences, still bared with it and battled through the loss later. Wei has a strong sense of justice that JC lacks. He sacrifices righteousness frequently enough for his own family, sect or self.

However he quickly backed down the Wen Qing and remnants issue, because someone said Wei had been bad mouthing him left a bad taste in my mouth. He should have trusted Wei better than that and not let such people affect his stand. Lan Zhan instantly intervened and pointed that Wei never said it still JC let himself be influenced by others. It was his own deep seated complex towards Wei where he loved him and still couldn't get over his inferiority complex. JC had contributed enough in fighting back in the campaign and so had Wei. If he ignored those people and stood his ground he could get Gusu support because Lan Zhan and Lan Xichen were not unwilling. And Nie leader could be won over if he mentioned Wen Ning and Wen Qing helping him survive and reasoned with him. He might have been unconscious for most of the time but he must have had known how he escaped. Nie leader was the type with strong opinions but he appreciated when others were able to stand their ground. He appreciated MIan Mian. Funny part was that JC backed down and yet later on he complains to Wen Qing that she didn't ask for his help.

I just believe that JC is socially, emotionally far more stunned, fragile, far less capable of trust of any kind than WWX, thanks to his parents, especially his mommy dearest and her social conditioning of him. The way I see it, he desperately wants walls around him. Social, emotional, political, financial, the routine of life, in short, any and every kind. Walls are his security blankets that prevent anyone and anything from getting close enough to hurt him, like his mother, his father, WWX, his peers, his acquaintances. Something of a hermit crab that can't allow himself to rely on anyone except himself. He was about 18-19 when WWX stormed out of Jinlintai for Qiongqi Pass? I do no see how teenager with such a background could have stood his ground and opened his mouth at a conference. Two scenes in episode 45 of the drama I find tell the most about JC. One is after the second siege of the Burial Mounds with Sect Leader Yao, when Jin Ling and Sizhui are more assertive than JC, the second is how JC acts at Lotus Pier when SiSi and Bicao are introduced. Basically, he either retreats at the first sign of opposition, or doesn't do anything at all, leaving decisions to the popular opinion. I see him as much weaker than what I assume you think of him.

Actually it's also the other way around. Wei Ying was about to get caught when he went to buy medicine and food but Jiang cheng used himself as bait and got caught tortured then golden core destroyed to cover for wei Ying to escape with medicine for their sister. It shows the scene later but wei Ying never learned of this either.

I guess I get why some find JC unsalvagable. But I just see him as human. It was wrong in a way for Wei Ying to keep something of this magnitude a secret from him, and he's right in a sense to be angry that such a monumental event in their life was kept secret from him. And now that he does know, he has to live with every past moment seen in a new and more painful light. How would things have changed if they had all know about Wei Ying's sacrifice from the beginning? We shall never know. But at the same time, as an older sister myself, I understand the willingness to sacrifice yourself for your little sibling. You want them to be safe and happy.
