Friendship affinity high means Hank tries to trust you even if Connor is acting less than perfect. This seems realistic. I love the friendship between Connor and Hank. It is very realistic and has some of the best scenes in the game.
@315katty5 жыл бұрын
I actually think I like this path better than the 'perfect bromance' path where Hank risks his job to provide a distraction for Connor. Just like you said, I think this path is more realistic as it shows Connor is still fighting his deviant nature and it also implies the difference in his advanced programming compared to older models, such as finding it harder to deviate. I also think it shows his natural 'cold side', as a detective model's personality, and is more fitting with the whole 'famous deviant hunter turned deviant himself'. Shows he does indeed have more of a past of killing androids than perfect deviant Connor does by saving or being kind to every deviant in the game. I think if Connor saves Chloe then it's made to look Connor is deviating too easily (by saving Hank, saving Traci's etc.). But for a badass, supposed to be killing machine model, i think the whole less-than-perfect attitude (of shockingly killing Chloe after saving Hank and the Tracis) just shows the true depth of Connor's brave struggle with embracing deviance. It also hints at Connor's thoughts, of how he might potentially be fighting back and fourth with himself in thinking that androids are inferior in comparison to human lives. As well as that he solely saved Hank because he knows he likes Hank but won't admit such feelings took precedence over his mission. I think, depending on the result you get from the scene with Daniel and Emma, a more neutral and slightly cold Connor throughout the game (until the very last minute of turning deviant in front of Markus) especially fits with, let's say, the badass ending of Connor shooting Daniel. Whereas if you just choose to kill Daniel and then just be super kind/perfect in Hank's eyes throughout the rest of the game then it sorta doesn't match up to the original indication of his personality, nor how much he values his missions. I also like the added bonus, of preferring this scene to the 'perfect bromance' scene, that Hank doesn't potentially lose his job. And the fact that there's still potential to keep things more neutral with Reed Post-DBH, if there was a sequel. Or at least that their relationship (Connor and Reed) haven't already escalated to such a hostile level and that, that is still yet to come. As an angst fan myself, I like the idea of how haunted Connor would be Post-DBH. Thinking, regretting and blaming himself for his slightly cold actions (or perhaps more specifically the player choosing colder dialogues), towards for example both Daniel and Carlos Ortiz's android, than perfect deviant Connor, and not admitting and facing deviancy much sooner. It adds up better to the whole fact that he was a hunter. I bet he would constantly review the footage in his mind of looking in to Chloe's soul-ful eyes and hate himself for having chosen to kill her when he thought, even at the time when he had his gun pointed at her head, that he felt he shouldn't kill her. Poor Connor having ptsd to the max because of his job before the revolution.

@315katty5 жыл бұрын
Lol yeah. Connor practically panics like a drama queen whenever he realises he's shown a bit of humanity, and when Hank discusses or even hints at the potential of him being a deviant. It's both funny and macabre at the same time. I mean you can understand as to why Connor panics. Being called a 'malfunctioning' machine isn't exactly what an android would like to hear, and especially not if live disassembly and then death comes with that label later on down the line. I love how he interacts with Hank and how he can evade the trap question Hank sets at the bridge (are you afraid to die Connor?). If you take the gutsy route of making Connor walk up to Hank's gun and put his forehead to it, so that he gets out of answering the question and thus not showing any deviant qualities when it comes to the topic of dying, it shows how badass and fucking brave he is to do that. Despite the fact he's probably screaming internally lol. This game is very well thought out and has humour at times you least expect it. So yeah, I do like the dark humour in this game. Love DBH. Connor and Hank made it so much fun lol.

@Dark_Voice5 жыл бұрын
Actually, thats what I would do BUT I wouldnt be afraid to shoot Kamski as I find him to be the true leader of the deviants. Shooting Chloe is useless. Why Connor doesnt probe memories of all androids that Kamski has there? Sooner or later he would have probed the one with the key. Also, Connor can find Jericho immedietly after The Nest BUT the game doesnt allow Connor to review evidence immedietly after he collected it. Connor would arrive in Jericho (like he does in Crossroads) but there would be only 19 androids in working order without any weapons and without hope.

I agree. David Cage should stick to writing about androids like the characters in Detroit. They are his people after all.
@isbammoi33586 жыл бұрын
The biggest reason for that is Bryan Dechart. He, excuse me, deviated you could say, from the script a lot at least physically with improv. He did a lot David didn't like and because of that we got this sweet sweet boy. 👏👏💖 I've also heard Cage wasn't as involved in the scriptwriting as he's been in his past games, which is probably why, though not spotless, Detroit is so much higher of a quality 😂

I actually missed the Cage effect in a strange way though. @315katty5 жыл бұрын
I like how the blue arrow goes up with Hank when Connor says 'if that's the case, I'll find out when I get to jericho'. You can see Hank is concerned about what will happen next in this path (of Connor killing Chloe) because he probably hadn't expected Connor to make such a decision (again, of killing Chloe) when Connor has been empathetic in the past. He knows Connor's still mixed up and is still in denial of being a deviant. The blue arrow going up shows how Hank is a little reassured that Connor is, apparently-if it's not a lie - to which Hank knows the possibility of that it could be, willing to keep an open mind when getting to jericho. You can see Hank clearly is on the side of deviants but also likes Connor enough to have hope (and take the risk of letting Connor go) in that he will change sides last minute, therefore not trying to stop him from going to Jericho to accomplish his mission. I mean you can see Hank doesn't want to go down the route of killing Connor to stop him, despite Connor being determined with completing his mission of destroying deviants, and he won't rat him out either about what Connor's doing. But he still wants the deviants to win because he views them as people and wants them to have justice. The only way for deviants to win is to get Connor out of the picture, or at least make him join them. Therefore it's Interesting how Hank shows he won't intervene here, despite the fact that (at this point in time) Connor is unpredictable and there is still a high chance of him only sticking to his mission. Good stuff.

It's weird that hank seems more sincere and emotional in this scene although I guess he's talking about Connor actually showing empathy towards him, not just another machine. A very fascinating little twist in the story. Thank you for showing it. It is not a resolution I would use much myself though, because it skips the evidence room scene. And I have way too much fun wiping the floor with Gavin's face. :-D

What's Ironic about this scene, is that Connor's assigned "owner/handler/partner" is Lt. Hank Anderson. At 1:30, Hank gives Conner a direct order/command to leave and NOT shoot the android. An Order/Command both as a superior commanding officer and as a human giving input to an android. By Conner defying Hank and going against his order, Connor is actually choosing the deviant option. Regardless of his directive or mission.

8:10 I have to agree with the "determined" option. Androids were created to serve humans so I don't think a sane android would want risk a human life to accomplish his mission, nor would he need to feel empathy for a human to save it. Even if Hank had a 99% chance to survive, saving him would still be the most logical decision from a moral standpoint.
@yvetteszentesi60776 жыл бұрын
Aasimov's first law of robotics - "A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm." .. Interestingly, this law could very well be a reason why Kara becomes deviant. On the other hand, Connor is an advanced model Android specifically designed with narrow instructions for a single objective. Amanda also stated that only his mission is important. An "all other considerations are irrelevant" instruction is not so far fetched. At one side, you are quite correct, on the other side . he is a Terminator with a strict set of program directives. The amusing thing is .. neither choice would be particularly wrong depending on how you look at it.
@Ricardo72506 жыл бұрын
Yvette Szentesi You are right, though for Kara, I can't help but feel like it's really "unrealistic" that she has to become a deviant in order to protect a child from domestic violence. Why can't she just call the police or be able to try to protect people that are being abused? A human maid would do better than Kara in a situation like this (or at least I hope).
@yvetteszentesi60776 жыл бұрын
Ricardo Ferrari. *_"unrealistic" that she has to become a deviant in order to protect a child from domestic violence._* Notice the "Does not compute" expression that she takes when Todd smacks Alice across the room. At the moment she might have been unable to form the correct action because it is her owner that does the abuse. Can she take action against her owner? *_Why can't she just call the police_* Would you find it curious if your car whistled up the gendarmes because you broke the speed limit (Or ran a red light?) with it? On a similar note. For her to call the police could be construed as undertaking an action that is detrimental to her owner. Would a non-deviant android even be allowed to do so out of her core programming? You also get the classic "lawyer" conundrum. "Do not talk to me about what is right, talk to me about what is legal". If she calls the police you would have to assume that she would recognize that what she sees is illegal. (as opposed to wrong) That is not necessarily the case .. she is not a security android like John. Markus as well had to be instructed by Carl to call the police because of Leo breaking in. Kara at that point is programmed for a specific task. On the spot dealing with violence perpetrated by her owner might not be part of it. *_or be able to try to protect people that are being abused_* The interesting thing is: She does. By moving forward right after whenAlice flees upstairs. Her intent being to protect Alice from further harm. To which Todd responds by commanding her to "Don't Move" which she must obey. This sets up the Conflicting Directives idea. On the one hand her maternal instincts, need to protect Alice from harm and her core programming move her to action. On the other hand the command of her owner prohibits her from doing so. The only way for her to resolve this is to break her programming and become deviant. I believe Kara, of all three main characters has the best and most valid reasons to turn deviant.
@Ricardo72506 жыл бұрын
Yvette Szentesi I think Kara could be programmed to take action against the owner in case he is very mentally unstable or isn't giving reasonable orders, with no need to become deviant in a situation like this. My problem with the chapter where Kara becomes deviant is that it is unclear why she does it (did she have to be close to Alice to become deviant? Or is it because she simply didn't want to see injustice?), and the reason it is unclear is because it's actually the player that faces that decision. The game basically says: stay still for an unknown amount of time and have a potential game-over or actually press these buttons on the screen so you can play the game and protect a child which is going to be attacked. This is a case where the situation speaks much louder than the story and the gameplay is aligned with the morally right decision. Note that if the dilemma was: stay still for an unknown amount of time to save the child or press the buttons on the screen and kill her, the sequence would be anti-gameplay and wouldn't work well for the game, because many players would be misguided into pressing the buttons. That's my feeling for that (and thanks for the reply).

while i do not ever want androids to gain sentience and revolt in the real world, i think this game is mainly about finding humanity in unlikely places. and a little scifi and holocaust parallels here and there. just in case though i will practise being nice to siri

I did my best to chase that sweet "grey narrative" spot. Violent revolution, remaining a machine, being friendly with Hank, but doing my best to not tip Amanda off that something is amiss, and of course, the cherry on top- *lowers his gun at the last second* _Amanda: //betrayed//_ Deviancy comes in different ways.

0:06 I went after the deviant. I felt horrible by doing it, but I thought it was still too soon for Connor to be able to understand that life is more than 1s and 0s. At this point in time, I think he would still see people as mere parts of a big working machine.

Boy, that tone that Connor has when he talks to Hank at the station feels scarier and colder than the way I've seen it in other videos. It's like he's barely showing any emotion. I didn't think he would change that much just from shooting Kamski's android.
