The Chennai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The system commenced service in 2015 after partially opening the first phase of the project. The network consists of two colour-coded lines covering a length of 35 kilometres (22 mi).
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a joint venture between Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu built and operates the Chennai Metro. The system has a mix of underground and elevated stations and uses standard gauge. The services operate daily between 06:00 and 22:00 with a varying frequency of 10 to 20 minutes.

what is the need of over head electrification in metro trains. please look at kochi metro and Bangalore Metro, they are without over head electrification. it looks nice.... bad design in Chennai Metro....

In case of Bangalore metro, power is fed from one of the rails. Chennai is prone to floods and hence power cannot be fed to the trains from rails.

IDK why do you have problems with Hindi... For now, the central government of India is paying for those advertisements. So it's their choice whether to have the advertisements in Hindi, French or fuckin' Arabic.

​@@amanpathak2k it's Chennai,not north India. What is the use of using Hindi words in Chennai .... 90% of people in Chennai can't understand that. And they will not even care about it to understand that. It's better if they use English or Tamil in advertisements. Yea I agree that central government is paying for advertisements but what is the use in it? All the money which are paid for advertisements are not own money of politicians and govt officers. Wasting public money for useless advertisements.

It is quite obvious Railways does not care about aesthetic, elegance,etc. It is where we Indians are lagging behind. The pathetic point is that having spent crores of rupees we are unable to update the latest technology in par with global updation. But fortunately other metros could able to adapt it.

Does'nt he konw chennai metro was proposed on 1970s between Thiruvsnmiyur to Thiruvittyur underground metro passing between Chennai's arterial roads Anna salai E. Ve. Ra Hi road but shelved because of funds. If done from that time itself, he would had have less complaint. What the apprehensions raised by him are applicable to all Indian metros, Chennai is far better. Stop seeing South with jaundice eyes.

ohh come on OHE is way cooler than empty third rail. I personally feel that third rail in banglore makes it look like a toy train instead of a real train. especially in the elevated stretch.

@@kkkkkkk7559 people always enjoy the toy trains, but at same time with lot of fixtures outside of train makes it ugly to look at it. it is about aesthetic point. none of the Indian Engineers care about this.

@@jaguarg3761 may be once in a while i like toy trains not always.. and OHE provides lot of scope in terms of power distribution and safer than third rail. no wonder most of the high speed trains around the world use OHE, its not about aesthetics, having a third rail is no big deal, it all comes down to particular metro operations and it's management's decision. if you think indian engineers dont care about aesthetics you should see metro interchange over the kathipara juntion clover leaf flyover, and underground stations of chennai metro. And none of the big developed nations give a damn about aesthetics(BIG nations like ours, not some nations smaller than our second tier city in geographical and population size). its all about cost effectiveness and maintenance.

@@kkkkkkk7559 Please visit Dubai and once you travel in Sheik Zayed Road you may understand where we stand in technology. the best part is the Indian Engineers major contribution for those works. there are hundreds of Kathiparas between Dubai and AbuDhabi. After independence just think about the dams constructed in Tamilnadu. there were fantastic face lifts around the dams areas such as play area, gardens, etc. now we can see only in old movies. so the attitude as whole has to change.

The train is rolling on rails at about 10 meters from road level. where is the question of flood. please recall your memory of 2015 flood, during that time also this metro train was running without any problem...

@Bhanu Pratap Singh Yes, the trains and stations look more modern and nice than Hyderabad metro but Hyd metro started just this year 6 months back with a length of 46km and daily raider ship is 1,60,000 per day. on weekends it touches 2,00,000.

Bhanu Pratap Singh The ridership for metro rail in Madras is relatively less because it has already got the MRTS & massive sub urban train system which covers 350kms running for decades since the British period.May be People still prefer that.

ticket cost is too high when compared to other modes of transport in the city. It's picking up crowd, but really need to wait for phase 2 completion to see crowded Metro stations.

How? I visit Bangalore from time to time and travel by metro. I feel it is slower than Chennai metro. I also feel the Alstom train sets of Chennai metro are better.

Bangalore has no proper roadways, suburban or Mrts...But in Chennai, the city has all form of transportation and also the road is wide and butter good...Metro was planned to reduce the road, Suburban and Mrts traffic...So, Nothing to improve for Chennai, Bangalore need to improve !😂
