What Can Trigger a Deadly B 200 on Your Canon Printer

This can Happen with ANY CANON Printer and it can either creep up at you as increasing nozzle problems or simply, one second you are fine and the next POOOF!
But be assured that the B200 error is almost always related to a Bad or Failing or totally GONE print Head.
When the print head goes, It can also cause damage to the logic board so you end up with a double whammy!
Not good any way you look at it.

Hot water, yes, I just want to confirm *Jerry Emery* method mentioned here worked for me. I understand the B200 error can be triggered due to several reasons, and dried ink is one of them. Details of the story: my original print head had failing nozzles so I bought a a machine with compatible working print head for parts that had been stored for a while. After some cleaning and installing it, it worked as expected but at times it was rejected "Wrong print head" and some B200 errors, frustrating so I cleaned it again, it worked, then B200 again. So I remembered Jerry Emery comment and decided to try. I used hot water and lots of patience to hold the print head to avoid burn it, then left it resting on a plate with more hot water putting some on top occasionally (where the ink goes in), I thought "that's it", but then after replacing the water over and over I would get more ink out of the print head. Then I modified 2 syringes to gently push water (without minerals) inside the print head, and also to extract it (both ways) and ink still came out, I did this until I only had clear water flowing, satisfied with this I let it cool down, shake it and tried again: that's it, now I have a working print head.

Ultimately mine was a simple fix. I put the print head in a sauce pan, making sure that the head side and the circuit side was NOT down in the hottest part of the pan. Then I simmered it for about 20 minutes, then set it on a paper town head side down on the towel for 24 hours. This will completely clear and clean any hardened ink. SHAZAM! It cleared the error and is printing almost like new. Be very careful to not damage the head and of course this will not work if the circuitry or the head is actually fried.

So, what do you know. After spending 2 hours re-filling my carts for the first time, I got the B200 Code !! for only the 2nd time since buying this printer ( 5 years ago ). Thank god it went away, after I turned it off and unplugged it. :) Then it went through a HUGE cleaning cycle and I printed a test page. Then I decided to print a 13x19 to compare the image from when I printed it before. Results: Looks OEM Great !! :)

I recently acquired a Canon Pro 1 (free) and have tried to clear a B200 error (10 amber flashes), with the unplug, press power button (30 seconds), continue to hold, plug in, press paper feed and additional 30 seconds, let go., which results in the amber light remaining lit with no white power button. I've done it several times with no progress. I've tried to physically move the print head and it won't budge. I'm usually pretty good a fixing things and hate to send this to the shredder and also don't want to spend a boatload on OEM ink and/or print head while listening to Clint Eastwood in my head asking me if I'm feeling lucky, know there could be a myriad of other issues. I don't need this printer as I recently bought a Canon Pro 10, was able to clear it's B200 error, got a set of OEM inks for $85, and have profiled the printer/paper and looks fine. I just hate to throw the Canon Pro 1 into a hole in the ground. At this point, I can't find any Canon Pro 1 print head, let alone a reasonable price Looking for help and guidance

Thank you so much for the information. I like my Canon MX922 because I can use refillable ink cartridges without having to reset the cartridges. The MX922 is $66 on amazon and get the 3 year protection plan. I get about 1 1/2 years out of my printer. It's time for me to get a new printer because of error code b200. Your videos are the best!

Seen this for B200 . 1. Turn OFF Power 2. Open the print head bay (as though you were about to change inks) 3. Turn ON power 4. Wait for print carriage to start moving to the left and let it go past half way 5. Before print carriage reaches left hand side (but after going halfway across) shut the cover. 6. Leave the Printer turned on 7. Good to go

Yes. That's one of the many reported "Cures". That will work IF there was no actual damage to the print head and you simply did not insert it correctly in to the carriage. Initially when I set my PRO-1 I immediately got a B-200. I did just that and sure enough, it was gone. When it came back months later it was due to irreversible Print Head Damage. I was lucky not to lose the logic board as well.

Jose, I have a B204 error on my Canon Pro - 1000. Once I get the replacement print head, is there any instruction out there that shows me how to get to the print head? Print head removal or replacement... Since the print head is not designed to be replaced by the user, the carriage does not move the print head to the replacement position even when the top cover is opened. ! 1) Open the top cover and the head cover, then Press and Hold the Resume button for 5 seconds or even longer. 2) While holding the Resume Button, Press and release the Tank Cover Open button. ! 3) Now Release the Resume button. 4) Wait.... until the carriage moves to the print head replacement position it takes ages, approx. 4-5 minutes. 5) Open the Joint Levers, and take out the print head slowly and carefully, if you have the bottom protective orange clip handy, use it. 6) It would be advisable to leave the machine powered on till you can replace the head again, otherwise it could get a little bit messy in there, powering off/on again, just my suggestion... I found this Note about disassembly.. Note: If the print head needs to be removed from the carriage without following the above procedures in disassembly or reassembly, allow the printer to sit for 1 minute or longer after power-off (to reduce the internal pressure of the ink tube) before removing the print head. This way, ink leakage from the print head joint will be prevented.

I have a Pro 100S. I was able to print without any problems. There is no problem with the colors. The Nozle Check result is excellent. While I was printing a photo, I suddenly got the B200 error. I couldn't get results in a few tries. However, when I turned on my printer the next day, the error had disappeared. Again during printing, the same problem arose. I printed a photo, when the next was about to start the B200 error popped up again. Now the print head does not move. How can i contact to you. B200 that slowing begins to show up and then is a permanent condition means the printhead is no longer communicating with printer. My PRO1 is cuttently on the 4th printhead.

Jose, I got the dreaded B200 code on my Canon Pixma Pro-10. This occurred after I attempted a thorough cleaning of the printhead by soaking it in cleaning solution, and squirting solution with a syringe into the nozzles. I tried looking for a reset sequence, but the ones I could find were generic and didn't work. I saw one of the videos you shared saying you had a sequence, and that you had a contact to purchase a replacement head if needed. Got a B200 on my Pro-100 (for the very first time, after many printers). My sin was that the printer was left on and idle for more than a month.... Anyway, I left it blinking overnight and today I decided to unplug and plug it again just to see if anything would change. After running the expected long cleaning cycle (because of the long period of inactivity) no B200 any more and everything works fine. Too early to know if the error will occur again, but if you don't see any update from me it means that everything is fine. Maybe a false B200 or a signal to make me more careful about running maintenance nozzle checks and/or printing? Only time will tell :) For now, happy new year to every one and especially to master Jose!

Hi all. After turning off the power to the printer for about 4-5 days and plugging it into the mains, it came back to life. but only worked for one day. I printed excellent photos, and again got error b200. I touched the print head and pulled it in different directions, and it came to life again for one day. I didn’t use the printer for several days, but today I needed to print photos, and it gave me an error again. but the trick with the twitching of the head no longer worked. I suspect that there is some problem in the electronic part of the print head. perhaps with some kind of capacitor, because when the printer sits for a long time it apparently discharges and everything starts working again. Maybe someone knows what kind of problem this is and what component is giving the error?

My printer printed photos fine, but sometimes left a mark at the very beginning of the photo. I decided to clean it. After cleaning it using the program, it gave me error b200. I took the head out and washed it, but that didn't work. I tried holding the power button for more than a minute to reset the error, but that didn’t help either. what now, just replace the print head? (((((

ALL canon printer are. Print heads can not last indefinitely so when they need to be replaced you get the B-200! They are considered a consumable item.

Unfortunately 9000 Printheads are nearly non existent today. If you like you 9000 output you will LOVE what a PRO100 or 200 produces. Day and night difference.

The reason I ask is that mine doesn't appear to have any power, inc no lights on it. I am now getting the B200 error...twice so far. I have been able to clear but after your video, I fear the print head is doomed. I do use PC inks and have cleaned and refilled myself. I also only use OEM carts... I have had to clean the print head once before to clear a stubborn nozzle test issue with ONE cartridge. It was succesfully cleaned and all was well. But NOW, I am beginning to see this awful error. Can you give me the link to a new OEM print head and direct me to the special procedures for Canon installation of it. Printer is canon Pro 100 vintage 2017. I love it but now have to research where to spend the money. I have loads of PC unused inks in the closet, unfortunately. Sure hope I didn't kill my print head buy using them or refilling. I am very careful about the procedure and watch your videos as well as communicate with Mike at PC. Thanks in advance

As for my image prograph I get paper jams when I'm using sticker paper. Didn't happen before, but now it started to and it always gets stuck in the same spot. The PRO100 does not need any special procedure. Put the print head in cart changing mode. Remove carts. Unlock print head. Remove. Replace it with the new one.

I have a pixma pro 10 I picked up used. It flashed orange (10x I believe) but I some how got it to go away and was able set it up on my pc and it printed a few photos but now it gave me the b200 error. I removed my printhead ( the part that holds the ink, not the whole carrier) and I carefully cleaned it based on videos I saw with just warm water and a tiny bit of soap. Let dry a day and replaced it. But I still have the flashing lights. Is there any other remedy or can you tell me where I can get a replacement printhead? I didnt find any online. This video was super helpful even though it didn't fix my printer :( it helped me know what is wrong so I appreciate it!

The print head is dead and can not communicate with the printer. That's what B200 is. You'll have to look on line for a new one. Make sure it is sealed and not refurbished. Will likely run about $120 or more.

I have a Canon mx892 printer that is 10 years old got a b200 error, tried several methods to reset but would not reset. I blocked the 2 connections on the print head with tape. This error went away, but will not print color. When I do a check I get all colors except yellow. I guess that is the bad port. Will replacing the printer head fix my printer? I have a Canon Pro-1. I got a B200 error and the print head will not move from the storage position. I ended up taking all of the covers off (only held on by plastic clips). I have since taken the Print Head out and cleaned it. I also used Doxyit on all of the small switches to make sure they were clean. You indicated there is a secret process when working on the print head. Could you please let me know the process? Thank you Also, if anyone thinks about taking the front center cover off, it just slips upward. Do not pry on the center cover.

It sounds like buying a Canon printer was a BIG mistake . I bought the IX6500 and it printed great pictures but it only get's used on occasion and now it is not working . I figured Canon would be a quality printer but this thing is not working after only printing maybe 150 sheets through it . It goes through more ink than I thought possible . I have tried unplugging to power and all that but it just wont work and has the orange light and blue flashing , and the b200 code . I will NEVER buy another Canon printer , I should have stuck with the HP I had before but gave it away when I got this one . That one is still working for the other person , and just makes me sick over this one .

I had a B200 error, replaced the print head with a new one from Amazon for about $25. It worked for a short time, and the B200 Code returned. Someone said it could be an electrical issue cause, a rare but possible etiology. I have next door neighbors using EMP technology to harrass my electrical components occassionally. Your mother board is causing the problem if you have already replaced the print head and you have yet another B200 error. Since you did not state the model I can't give you any more info. By the way I ONLY work with CANON PRO-100-10-1-1000

Hello Jose, I have a Canon MG5320 printer and I have a B200 problame. I already did the head cleaning, and i use a little trick to cover the electric pins from the right side 2nd and 3th surface if it front of you. This solution disaperd the error. BUT the black color is working and the rest color print don't. I assembleyed out and checked the tube. Acording this I can see the color exatly in the surface red , yello,, blue and the little black is still there,but the machine is just printig out black style. So what shouId I do? I just bought a brand new pro 100 from a friend of mine and after following all the proper steps from the paper instructions. After uploading my cd and pair the laptop and printer, the lights starts blinking blue and yellow ten times. Looked in the canon sight and it says it's the b200 ...how can i fix this??

Your print head is NOT communicating with the printer. Recheck the installation of it.

where can one find the correct procedure for these photo printers? I do have canon cheaper printers like IX6850 and MX925 and swap printheads easily by opening a lever but I guess these photo printer are much more complicated. I keep refilling cli 551 cartridges (could be a different name in america) as have all the tools and chips to reset the cartridges.

B-200 is a generic printhead non communication error. Google will tell you to unplug your printer and repower it. Usually a new print head returns it to normal. Maybe!

If you mean in the Dye ink category maybe the epson1430 butvit is only 6 colors compared to 8 for the PRO100. Plus it has no grays so it will fall short for monochrome images.

Cannon mg5220. Goes to b200. Cleaned head multiple times. Still b200. Covered the color contacts on the head and it will print black only. Is there a way to check that the power signal is coming to the print head or the print head circuit has failed? Is there a video showing the print head tray as it moves from start up to print ready?

You need a new printhead. Understand that ANY thermal printhead as these are wear out as you use them. Once even a few nozzles in any color channel are damaged the printhead is declared unusable.

When I got the B200 code on my Canon MG5520 printer, I removed the print head and cleaned it with windex as you suggest. Still got the code. Was wondering, is the fact that I am not using Canon cartridges any longer (they're too expensive) can cause the problem? I will try purchasing a new printer head if it's not too pricey!

B200 is a general error that can be just about anything. If what you have done did not solve the problem then your option is a new printer. It could have been the print head as well as they do wear out and have a definite live span.

Is it a PRO1? There aren't any more print heads around unless you can find one on EBAY! This model was discontinued due to just those problems. When I installed mine from SCRATCH but threw a BE 200 at me. I fiddled with it unplugging it and re powering over ten times till it finally worked. If I don't use it for a few weeks it does it again. I am on my 3 print head on it. Knock on wood.

How do I replace printhead on my canon pro 10 printer. It errors B200, the head can’t move out.

Open the lid and press the lower button for 5 seconds. The instructions are printed right there on the inside of the printer lid.

At this point i'm thinking about purchasing a new print head to give it a try. In the video you mentioned you might have a source to purchase them-would you be able to provide that for me? Yes a new print head is what's needed. That's what B200 means.

I have a Pro 1000 and just recently turned it on to print. It went through its routine cycle and after completing that cycle a support code B204 popped up on the screen. Is that the print head and is there a way of fixing it?

Power it off Pull the plug Re start and cross fingers. How long has it sat without using?

@@cheo1949 it has been sitting for a while, I don't use it unless printing big stuff. I went through those steps and B204 keeps popping up on the screen. My question is, can I find it cheeper than 400.00 to purchase a new head?

No. That is not a PRO photo model. You probably reverse the way you initially installed it. On my Pro-100 for instance I just open up the lid and allow the printhead assembly to come to center. I remove the carts and unclamp the print head.

Hi Jose! I really enjoyed your video and was wondering if you had any ideas for my Pixma Pro-100. I've had the unopened printer stored in my closet for 6 years and recently pulled it out and plugged it in for the very first time and it immediately gave me the B200 code. Called Cannon and they told me I had a printhead problem (even though there is no visible damage) but the printhead replacement cost would be over $700 since they are phasing out the Pro 100. Do you have any ideas on where I should go from here?

I also have 2 new in box PRO100 from about that time frame. Are you saying you set it up meaning you correctly installed the NEW sealed printhead and carts and upon powering it up you got a B200 error?

Hi jose, i just had B200 on my Pro 1 this morning, all ink is more than half way. Actually i just left my printer unused for about 3 months. I have another ink set, which i tried to open the cover, but i could not. Need your advise Thanks in advance

Not printing for 3 months is what did it. Power off the printer and unplug the cord. Wait 10 minutes. Reconnect the plug and press the power button. If successful you will go through a massive cleaning cycle and all should be fine. If not there is not much more you can do except try the process again.

Hi Jose, I have a error 1006 on my canon pro 10 out of nowhere. Do you know anything of this. Called canon support and they say it seems to be a hardware issue. I tried everything but the paper wont feed. :(

Are you feeding through the manual feeder or the top or rear feeder? All Google searches lead to a bad manual feeder paper sensor.

HI Jose, So this is finally addressed. It was to do with paper size slection ( printer did not like the art paper selection somehow). Now i have run into another stupid issue. I installed the new PBK and MBK cartridges (third party carts), the printer does not use the inks from these carts. There are no error messages, but the inks are not being used. what should I do? Test patterns are fine for all other inks but only these colours are not working. Thanks a ton.

I ruined my printer in less than a year by using cheap ink. I suggest using only genuine Canon ink cartridges. The cheap ink is tempting but print quality is bad and it will destroy your printer fast.

B200 is for Canon Printers , whats the code of the Epson printers ? have u heard about such problem happened to the P600 before ?

No. EPSON Print heads actually last a lot longer as far as nozzle damage. CANON Print heads are Thermal and very sensitive to ink flow problems. Ink is what keeps them cool and operating in good order. BUT... they can fail at any time!! Which is one of their primary down sides. This person abused his print head by doing repeated deep cleanings. You just can not do that. You need to rest the printer for 24 hours after a deep clean.

you know Joe, I had a small test last week, a comparison between 3 printers, PRO1000, P600, and P800, all they gave great results, the only downside of the P600 is the ink consumption, it needs lots of ink, and its really very hi running cost. but the prints it produces are amazing.

P800 and P600 basically will produce almost identical results. The slight differences are due to their different print engines. PRO-1 does a bit better due to the CO.

Absolutely correct, the Prints on A3 size, slightly more crisp that came out from PRO1000, but on A4, the P600 was better than P800. BTW, all the printers well profiled and calibrated with the Screens. P800 & PRO1000 used OEM inks and Marrutt inks used with the P600.

Jose Rodriguez i think it was already there. It’s easily removed when you take out the cartridges. You mentioned in the video that there is special procedure, so i was wondering are there any additional steps before i install a new one

You bought this used? There should be no special process for that simple printer. I am talking about $1300 and up printers. Remove the carts and unlock the lever, remove the printhead. What are you trying to do? Install a new one or try to clean the current one?

This happened to my fairly new less than 100 prints ip 8750. Bc of this I will NEVER buy another Canon printer nor reccomend a canon printer . Further to that I will Never buy a Canon product or recommend a Canon product. As far as I'm concerned, Canon's complete lack of after care and reliability has rendered them as garbage. Pasure. Crap, junk not to be touched. I tried v hard to resolve this error but it always came back

Jose, my well-loved Pro-100 has given me the B200 error code! I haven't tried to take it out and clean it, but now all I get when turned on is alternately blinking yellow and power light. What info do you need? You need a printhead. Tied to for about $200 for new sealed in box on EBAY. You open the lid. Let the head carriage shift to center. Remove carts and unlock and 3rd I've printhead. Cleaning it will not help.
