This place is like so cool yet so creepy at the same time. Cannot imagine the nuclear damaged back then, might be horrible. And Rozz always cracks me up! - 'You sure these Soviet era things still work yeah? Cos I feel very dirty still.'

Anyway they opened the amusement park for a few hours after the explosion supposedly to cover things up and redirect attention away from what was happening. But the residents were soon all evacuated anyway

Each person 7 seconds of sweeping radioactive graphite off rooftops before dashing back to another unsafe but less exposed area. Almost all the firefighters died within a month from radiation sickness, majority of those that survived will develop some sort of cancer in the future or have unborn children with deformities. Nonetheless, what needs to be done has to be done.

I'm not often serious RE; youtube & videos like this, it IS YT after all. However, it's disheartening to watch & see a slight mocking / joking reference of the place at times, as well as comments saying 'omg this was so funny!' Oh really? If you look at the back story & history of this place it's absolutely heartbreaking. A family friend of ours took in 2 very very frightened children from here after they were all forced to evacuate. Their mother was in hospital with serious radioactive poisoning / consumption, & they'd lost everything they'd ever known - their family had split up, friends, home comforts, toys, the streets & homes they'd come to love & know so well. Awful. People died due to the radioactivity they were exposed to here after the explosion, the levels were so high it was killing them from the inside out. I can't imagine going through something like this, or any of my family, & leaving so many memories behind (not so much the materialistic items but the photographs).

If Chernobyl is safe for visiting, why won't they start rebuilding that place for civilisation to begin there again?
@jordandoss69948 жыл бұрын
Because one visit is probably an hour or so and you get 2.2 of radiation. Living there would be way too dangerous because those numbers will multiply after just a few days there.
@October3Zer08 жыл бұрын
It will take about 20,000 years for Chernobyl to be inhabitable by humans again.

It takes up to 300 years for air and 500 years for the ground to be absolutely safe. You must not be there for more than 1-2 days.

It was a nuclear power plant that went into meltdown. Due to some design flaws that were unknown to the crew when testing the safety systems, the nuclear reaction couldn't be controlled. The resulting heat/energy released superheated the water in the cooling system, causing it to explode. With the cooling system destroyed, the radioactive energy melted the whole plant, and then the exposed plant contaminated the environment and air around the area. Energy stored in Uranium is massive, even till today the nuclear reaction is still active, 25 years later. It might take another 20 years for the reaction itself to truly die down, and the environment in the area can only start to recover after that.
