A lot of people wonder how she could have gone so long in life without seeing some of these photos or knowing some of this family history....when I was a kid, say 14-15, I didn't know most of the family history I know now. I knew who my parents were, as far as any kid thinks to know their parents. I knew who my mom's parents were, I had grown up with them all of my life until their deaths. I never met my dad's parents, they were both dead before mom and dad ever met. However I never got to know my parents or grandparents beyond the level of who they were to me. I never got to know them as who they were before they all married and started their own families. I never gave any thought to looking through old family photos and putting names with faces etc. Then my grandfather died in 1995 at the age of 74 and I was 15, almost 16. I remember starting to think about how much I DIDN'T know about him....about how much of his service in WWII I had never learned about...about how I had never asked him about what his parents had been like. All of those things that I now think about, I never asked him. By the time I was 18 I had gotten into doing genealogy. It started not long after my grandfather died actually. I heard one of my aunts (grandma's sister) mention an ancestor from the 1800s, and I got nosy. Finally when mom figured out it wasn't just a passing phase for me, she helped me get started doing the work. Now I am almost 41, and I have largely become the keeper of most of the old family photos and am usually the one people come to when they need family history info. I took time to make an audio recording of my grandmother and 2 of her sisters describing what life was like growing up in the 1920s-1930s in rural farming NC being the children of share-croppers (I am so happy to have that recording....grandma died in 2010....It means more to me than almost anything else I have). I have a video I posted to facebook of my dad telling some funny stories about growing up in the 40s and 50s in his old neighborhood being one of 8 children...his father was an Italian immigrant and his mother was 1st generation American. Once I lost grandpa, it became more important to get to know the people I care about most on a deeper level. They aren't JUST mom and dad....They aren't JUST grandparents. They had a life before all of that. And if you don't at least try to learn who they were/are you're doing yourself and them a disservice.

You can tell I've got a North-East dialect, and it gets stronger the longer I spend back home. But for her to be away that long and put out an accent thicker than the locals just grips my s**t and I don't know why. Ant&Decs' accents have watered down due to their living etc. Either she watches "Auf Weidersehen, Pet", "Spender", "55° North" and "Bobby Thompson" on repeat with minimal outside influence or she's puttin it on. Her accents thicker than her brothers, man! 5:33 bein a Prime Example 🤦🏻♂️ Apart from that she's got talent and passion but the thickenin up of the accent is just.... 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
