While not a budget option like a lot of the stuff I review, the SMR PUFFLE is extremely versatile and potentially worth the higher price tag. Mine is a synthetic 20° but they also come in 40° and 55° ratings in both synthetic ( vegan as its labeled) and hydrophobic goose down.
The Puffle has duel end cinches and snaps running the length which allow it to be used as a top quilt. Each end also has a generous amount of insulation inside of a draft baffle. These not only help seal the head end in TQ mode and both ends when its in UQ mode, but also seal the hole that's created at the end of the TQ footbox.
Each corner has a sewn on micro Beastie D ring that functions as a location to attach the included UnderQuilt hardware. This consists of 2 lengths of shock cord each having Line Loc Hooks threaded on each end. To attach to the quilt, the hooks are easily clipped to the corner rings and the cord is ran up to your hammocks end whipping or carabiner. The Line Locs are then adjusted to "lift" the quilt and the end cinches to seal any gaps.
Multiple Puffles can be snapped together and it can also be used as a simple blanket, making it truly versatile in many ways.
Overall, I think SMR did a great job of having it perform very well when used as a TQ or UQ. Its also built with the same quality seen when purchasing cottage manufactured quilts. The price for a 20° or 40° down is kinda high but the 55° synthetic is closer to affordable.
So if your looking for a quality, multifunctional, down or synthetic quilt in 20,40 or 55° , then definitely check this one out. The price may be high, but it absolutely does everything it claims to do very well. ~ Chesapeake
