While not a budget option like a lot of the stuff I review, the SMR PUFFLE is extremely versatile and potentially worth the higher price tag. Mine is a synthetic 20° but they also come in 40° and 55° ratings in both synthetic ( vegan as its labeled) and hydrophobic goose down.
The Puffle has duel end cinches and snaps running the length which allow it to be used as a top quilt. Each end also has a generous amount of insulation inside of a draft baffle. These not only help seal the head end in TQ mode and both ends when its in UQ mode, but also seal the hole that's created at the end of the TQ footbox.
Each corner has a sewn on micro Beastie D ring that functions as a location to attach the included UnderQuilt hardware. This consists of 2 lengths of shock cord each having Line Loc Hooks threaded on each end. To attach to the quilt, the hooks are easily clipped to the corner rings and the cord is ran up to your hammocks end whipping or carabiner. The Line Locs are then adjusted to "lift" the quilt and the end cinches to seal any gaps.
Multiple Puffles can be snapped together and it can also be used as a simple blanket, making it truly versatile in many ways.
Overall, I think SMR did a great job of having it perform very well when used as a TQ or UQ. Its also built with the same quality seen when purchasing cottage manufactured quilts. The price for a 20° or 40° down is kinda high but the 55° synthetic is closer to affordable.
So if your looking for a quality, multifunctional, down or synthetic quilt in 20,40 or 55° , then definitely check this one out. The price may be high, but it absolutely does everything it claims to do very well. ~ Chesapeake

Nice to have an independent review. They have a bunch of their own videos but it's always hard to trust a company talking about how great their own product is.

Hello! Just bought a puffle. Haven’t had the chance to use it yet. The prices have gone up A LOT since your review, but they had a special BOGO. Have you taken it out and used yours? It feels narrow on me from the hips up. Wonder if it is drafty in between the snaps.

Hello again. Is the puffle temp rating accurate?

Im alittle late to this informative video but this is really a budget top quilt. You have the right to call this affordable my friend. Now the next top quilt for best bang for buck is featherstone’s moon dance top quilt with 800+ fill power and weighs almost the same

Can this be used in poncho mode or do the snaps not work that way?

Surprised You didn’t mention whether it breeds or not. All you said is that it was warm, but do you get sweaty?

I didn't did I? Sorry, yes it breathes quite well. Ive used it in both dry, and super foggy/ rainy weather and never got clammy or felt as if the insulation had wetted out. My wife and daughter have kinda taken it over for couch use as of late though lol. Overall its a well rounded piece of gear and its multifunctionality can make up for the price for a lot of people I think. Plus Richard the owner is a great guy, I camped with him a few years ago at a group hang right after they launched the Nubé. Hope this helps!

The first manufacturer that shows their top-quilt packed into the storage bag, I'll buy it immediately. None of these friggin idiot companies ever think to show what their products look like packed up. I even requested a photo of it or stats and they acted like they didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Useless!!

@@Detman101 Lol. I will take a vid of it packed to its smallest size and post it later on today. Its compression sack is the roll down type and gets A LOT of the air out when done right. Are you looking for down or synthetic like mine? Which temp? Have you looked into any of Snugpak stuff at all? They have a Jungle Blanket: snugpakusa.com/product.php?id=40, Jungle bag : snugpakusa.com/product.php?id=39, and a "" Woobie-esque" Tactical Blanket snugpakusa.com/product.php?id=159 that are synthetic and pack pretty small.

How is it holding up?

It's holding up great so far. I've actually got it on my bed right now and my wife loves it as well . So far I've had it into the mid to upper 20's as a TQ and UQ and it did great. SMR doesn't get as much attention in the hammocking community for some reason but I've actually camped work the owner Richard a few years ago ( well before they were on Shark Tank) and he's got a great vision and dedication to producing quality gear. They might not be as bespoke as a Hammock Gear, Warbonnet or the like, but the gear is equally as no different none the less I feel. Their UQ and TQ is pretty cool too I think and I like their shelter systems too.
