Really liked the video. It's a perfect balance of explaining the main ideas while not taking too long.

In the last line where White plays e6 and exd7... You are not down a pawn but you are down a full piece... Will check if black has enough compensation for a piece in that position....

big plus for video description. How KID and Grunfeld compare, which one is better for beginner?
@James-Cook3 жыл бұрын
Clearly kid ! You shouldn't play the grunfeld
@TheChessGiant3 жыл бұрын
If I had to choose one, I would definitely go with the King's Indian Defense. The Grunfeld is hypermodern and far from traditional. I would honestly first start off with something like the Slav/Semi-Slav Defense or Nimzo-Indian Defense etc. If a player is very aggressive, the Budapest Gambit is a ton of fun. We are actually coming out with a video that premieres in 3 days which covers the top 10 chess openings for black against d4. I will drop the link here! No pressure to watch, but this will hopefully be a good resource for you if you're interested! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqWpn2qjjc9giqs

Very nice. Can you do another one covering some more lines? The main two that come to mind are white fianchettoing the king bishop and the anti Grunfeld line with f3. A couple others, not so important, are Qa4 in the exchange and Bg5 before Nf3. You do a very nice job of explaining the main themes and picking good illustrative lines.
@TheChessGiant2 жыл бұрын
Thanks ewallt! Glad you enjoyed it, and yes so much more to cover. I just took a picture of this comment and will make sure to cover these lines if I make more Grunfeld Defense theory. Thanks again bro!
@monstermagnet31502 жыл бұрын
I agree, Grunfeld is one the most interesting opening against d4 as it can be both super sharp or very calm depending on Black's mood and how White plays. There's the Stockholm variation (Bg5 before Nf3, which is the Petrosian) but honestly it's a worse way to play and your reponse as black is about the same. The fianchetto is the Kemeri and it's very nice for White because they get a lot of attacking chances. Aginst 3.f3, you can lock the center with the Grunfeld maneuvre c5 then d6 after d5 from White. Finally, the Schleter (4.e3) /Makogonov/Burille stuff which could be nice to cover but it's such an imbroglio of names ! (many transposes into the Burille in the end)

10:49 The thing always missing from these kind of lines is an analysis for 1400 club level players like me, is why ...Nxe4 dxe4 isn't bad for black (or white with colors reversed in similar situations).

Great question! When there was only one rook on it, the bishop defends so they don't want to lose the exchange. Right when Rc1 is played doubling up, we take a pawn on d5. They can play Rxc3 Bxc3 Rxc3 but then we would have d4 forking both the dark-squared bishop on e3 and the rook so black would be winning there. Hope this helps! Thanks, Solomon
