This is one of the more outrageous games of Leela ID 11248 vs Laser which seems to violate many of the principles which are given to players less than say 1800, such as not using the f pawn for fear of weakening the a2-g1 diagonal, and not moving pawns in general around one's king because of the vaccum of weaknesses created. But all rules have exceptions and in fact going "All in" with the outrageous moves proves the "method in the madness" and gives Leela such a strong position where she can favourably "cash out" the attack into a winning endgame position. Marvellous - just Marvellous as Mr Bean would say! If there is one lesson for this game, is that you can not just rule break but rule-break with pure conviction so that the "All in" approach has a chance to prove it's upsides! If f then g and if g then h - all singing from the same hymn sheet to get in g5 very effectively!

Info about Leela Zero:
en.wikipedia.o...
...
Leela Chess Zero (lc0) is a free, open-source, and neural network-based chess engine and distributed computing project.
Leela Zero's algorithm is based on DeepMind's 2017 paper about AlphaGo Zero.[3][6] Unlike the original Leela, which has a lot of human knowledge and heuristics programmed into it, Leela Zero only knows the basic rules and nothing more.[7]
Leela Zero is trained by a distributed effort, which is coordinated at the Leela Zero website. Members of the community provide computing resources by running the client, which generates self-play games and submits them to the server. The self-play games are used to train newer networks. Generally, over 500 clients have connected to the server to contribute resources.[7] The community has provided high quality code contributions as well.[7]
Leela Zero finished third at the BerryGenomics Cup World AI Go Tournament in Fuzhou, Fujian, China on 28 April 2018.[8]
Info about Alphazero:
en.wikipedia.o...
AlphaZero is a computer program developed by the Alphabet-owned AI research company DeepMind, which uses an approach similar to AlphaGo Zero's to master not just Go, but also chess and shogi. On December 5, 2017 the DeepMind team released a preprint introducing AlphaZero, which, within 24 hours, achieved a superhuman level of play in these three games by defeating world-champion programs, Stockfish, elmo, and the 3-day version of AlphaGo Zero, in each case making use of custom tensor processing units (TPUs) that the Google programs were optimized to make use of.[1] AlphaZero was trained solely via "self-play" using 5,000 first-generation TPUs to generate the games and 64 second-generation TPUs to train the neural networks, all in parallel, with no access to opening books or endgame tables. After just four hours of training, DeepMind estimated AlphaZero was playing at a higher Elo rating than Stockfish; after 9 hours of training, the algorithm decisively defeated Stockfish 8 in a time-controlled 100-game tournament (28 wins, 0 losses, and 72 draws).[1][2][3] The trained algorithm played on a single machine with four TPUs.
...
Relation to AlphaGo Zero
Further information: AlphaGo Zero
AlphaZero (AZ) is a more generalized variant of the AlphaGo Zero (AGZ) algorithm, and is able to play shogi and chess as well as Go. Differences between AZ and AGZ include:[1]
AZ has hard-coded rules for setting search hyperparameters.
The neural network is now updated continually.
Go (unlike Chess) is symmetric under certain reflections and rotations; AlphaGo Zero was programmed to take advantage of these symmetries. AlphaZero is not.

At 8:01, one of the best Leela T40 networks finds 26 Nf6+! (instead of Bd3). This double-piece sac (N on f6 and B on c4) gives a crushing advantage - a 96% chance of winning according to Leela. Leela's PV goes 26 Nf6+ gxf6 27 Qg4+ Kh7 28 Rxf6 Qxc4 29 Qe4+ Kg7 30 Rdf1. Now the threat of Qg4+ followed shortly by mate forces Black to give up his Q.

i think the first rule breaking move was Nh5 from black and the rest was punishment. A crazy brave punishment. And all for an endgame win very impressive. Fine analysis, thanks KC keep up the good work

From what I've seen, if the centre is blocked and kings are on the same side castled, it tends to be quite good to push the pawns. It only backfires when enemy gets to open the centre.

Great game indeed! As for Leela, any information about its refresh rate, when its next level is to be admired? Right now I guess Leela is the fastest improving chess program, based on the Zero technology I admire. My point is, about when can we see the confirmation that Leela became the best engine around? And after that, it isn't over yet, I am sooo looking forward to the surprises that are awaiting us (whether it be chess or go, for that matter).

perhaps a drastic example, but pushing k-side pawns isn't that crazy, especially when Black's pieces are still passive and can't take advantage of weak squares. For a human example see www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1634602

5:25 h4 is chosen because it gives an eval of 1.53, stockfish sees it after just one second in depth 21 in my build, and that agains shows every other engine will see it too. The engine applies the evaluation function and sees all positions in a path for 21 plies that will be better and better and no way going wrong so it just does it, not need to think anything else. Anyone can play other moves and see if the engine is wrong or right and will see it is right.

Agree but you need to "know what you are doing" though - because each of the pawn moves f4 g4 and h4 in their own right might be weakening. But in combination they become effective in this particular position. That's the beauty of chess.

Apparently, because black has no counter play in the centre and white pieces are fit to attack immediately on the kings side. This is strictly dynamic advantage and white has to be absolutely positive that his opponent has no any tactics that will level the position, as was shown in some variants here. Another thing is that white, once he played his committal pawn advances, is only in attack mode and has to find active and swift continuations, breaking through black's position with overwhelming tactics, since strategic evaluation is in his favour. Sadly, bright tactics like these are not that obvious in human point of view, generally speaking. However, the moral of the story with those AI machines, I think, is that we are witnessing, as we learning from them, a continuous breaking of these simple rules of thumb, which are... were... our reliable guide in the jungle (or swamp of variations). It was a long path from Philidor's book to current god-like manner of play that gives us such aesthetic pleasure.

I guess "Vacuum of weakness" means space advantage and more importantly king hunt for leela. If this is justified I think lots of GMs will run this line, its pretty standard starting position. is it that bad for black already? after f4, g4 , h4! really?

3:28 g4 "totally out of this world" but stockfish is almost first move to show as the best one, at least in my build appears already in depth 22. I am sure every other engine will choose g4 too, it would be an "out of this world" move if Stockfish would choose it on depth 40 or so, but depth 22 means every other engine will choose same move
@jmbbao
@jmbbao 5 жыл бұрын
So what I see is a game full of inaccuracies and that means Leela will never survive to Stockfish, except if the opening they are oblied to play is already very umbalanced to make imposible for Stockfish to turn the result (this happens sometimes because some opening is tested if it is really unbalanced and no engine can turn the result, but those games are presented as "Stockfish has lost to this and that!!!" without understanding they are usually playing predefined openings so people learns about some they want to know more and see what the engines do.

2:04 Stockfish also does f4 so no Leele special here. Also previously Stockfish indicates how Leela did several inaccuracies like Qe2 that is a move that loses 0.7 eval. Black is also doing bad moves. I don't understand why this channel has so many games of this inferior engine. Stockfish destroys Leela and also would destroy AlphaZero if they allow the programmers to say how Stockfish must to fight it, a neural network is no more than a good opening book and almost useless in rest of the game, so put Stockfish with a opening book too and AlphaZero will be beated very easily. Similar power of number of positions analyzed by second also must be contemplated, AlphaZero had 750 or so special neural processors, so calculate the number of positions those processors contemplate per second and give Stockfish similar power and then you will see how AlphaZero will not beat Stockfish. What they did was not correct.
