Going into the last round of the Mumbai Mayor's Cup 2019, GM Farrukh Amonatov was trailing the leader by half a point. He was up against GM Vasquez Schroder (2476) and had the white pieces. Amonatov opened the game with 1.e4 and Schroder surprised him with the Dragon! It was going to be a full blooded fight.
Just into the middlegame, the sacrifices began to flow on the board and Amonatov sacrificed two of his rooks for two minor pieces. In this video the GM from Tajikistan shows his mind boggling calculations to the viewers. We were amazed to see Amonatov calculating so precisely, and hence we asked him for an advice on how to improve one's calculation. Check out this video to know the secret and also to see Amonatov's brilliant attacking game.

2:27 Instead of Ne5, black should play Qa5 which is an improvement, then the Nc6 still aims the N on d4. Dragon still fights on!!

why gms say opponent surprised me on move number 1..🤐🤐 in my opinion which may be wrong. it doesnt give a good msg to beginners like me.. i have seen so many gms saying this.. @chessbaseindia

It's because GMs study their opponent beforehand very thoroughly and know exactly what openings they play. Just try and ignore it

@@ym276 but still bro they are gms.nothing to get surprised on move 1..morever in one interview i remember that GM was upset becoz he did not revise a novelty which was on move 14 apprx.just before a game. i mean no one can revise all lines before the game.. why so much focus on theoretical lines 😥😥

@@vishal-qs8cr They do this for a living. Not some blitz games on Chess.com. Do you write the JEE-Mains without preparing for it? The life of a chess player is not very rewarding, monetary point of view. If they lose, it is a waste of time, sponsorship and intellectual effort. And beginners don't get to decide what is right and wrong. Furthermore, think of it this way. Let's say you've a novelty in the Grunfeld defence against 1. d4 that you prepared for a match several days in advance. Now, if they were to play 1. e4, doesn't that feel like a waste of time? All that time invested in preparing against 1. d4 could have been invested in fighting 1. e4 instead. In chess, you need to anticipate several moves both on and off the board. Not for the sake of fighting spirit or sportsmanship, but to keep a roof over your family's heads. Does that make sense to you?
