The interviewer of this video, IM Sagar Shah, got acquainted with the protagonist of this video GM Yasser Seirawan through his books. Yasser is an encyclopaedia of chess knowledge and has amazing stories with him. This is the first time that Sagar met Yasser in person and thought that books would be an ideal subject to discuss! In this 30-minute video we ask Yasser his opinion about chess books, the books that made a deep impression on him, his favourite chess books and how relevant is it to study books on classics in this modern day.

Yasser is always a delight to listen to - had a very brief interaction with him during Tata Steel Chess last month and he has this calm aura that immediately makes you feel comfortable around him - very approachable and kind in the way he interacts with everyone. I love this interview. Two of the greatest chess contributors are meeting here. Yasser was ni.ce to read. No curiosity about the truth in a game or position? He only wants to float in a kind of sympathy and feel-good spheres. I'm much more convinced by the attitude of, say, a Ljubojevic or Hübner. But truth is highly unpopular in this declining age of feeling orientation and is often even completely ignored and denied. Seirawan seems to be an exemplary representative of this ("postmodern") time and attitude. Hopefully only in chess.
