Fischer is the chess GOAT . In the Candidates leading up to his 1972 World Championship against Spassky, he beat two other top GM's Mark Taimanov and Bent Larsen with 6 straight wins over both of them. This have never been seen before or since. Fischer also had a 20 consecutive win streak over other top GM's in over the board tournaments. In comparison, Carlsen's best is 6 consecutive wins. And of course Fischer was not using chess engines to prepare.

Great commentary, as usual. Bobby was a flame that burned so incredibly brightly and brilliantly for all too short a time, until that flame flickered and went out. But the memory of the greatest chess player of all time (IMHO) will never be extinguished.

Fischer’s chess is crystal clear, fantastic! It’s all the more a pity he didn’t test this kind of play against Karpov, who did “nothing” but won so very often.

I’d say the most controversial move in his career was when he took the h pawn in the first game of the world championship match.
@chessdawg
@chessdawg 11 ай бұрын
I actually considered this when I did the video. My thought was that most people are in agreement that grabbing the h pawn was a mistake. Whereas this game actually had divided opinions. I was surprised that Bronstein approved of Fischer allowing his dark squared bishop to be taken.

His most controversial move was snapping a pawn with his bishop against Spassky and losing the bishop when Spassky pushed his pawn and sealed it in, a total beginner's mistake.

When Fischer moved his Queen to H6, it wasn't to get out of any pin, I think. It was rather to prevent the black King from running away via F8. I was asking myself why didn't Fischer move straight away his rook to H1, before Queen to H6, and that must be the reason: to prevent the white king from running away. What I don't understand is why Fischer bothers to take the black rook instead of moving his own to H1 directly.

Qe2 is a logical idea because with the bishop on d7 black is not really in time to go with Nd7 Nc5 for example. Fischer could play Qe2 because black would have less harmony (thanks to the d7 bishop being an obstruction) if white chooses to keep the light bishop instead

Apologies, Final comment!! Looking at the date 1959, it definitely shows Bobby's haven't fully reached 1963 levels and shows that he probably hasn't studied Lasker's game previous to this one i watched in sequence. With a Queen and 2 Rooks on the right forming a triple canon and Bishop holding on strong white diagonal, Fischer would have easily and quickly finished off this game!!!

Great Channel and great Video. Running commentary by L plater again: For me, @1:55sec was a very good move by black. Why? Because pawn safe on white squares as W Bishop is all the way on the other side. more importantly it allows black Bishop to develop (by moving to G7!!). This is very important because it enables black Bishop to prepare to attack the white Knights on the same black diagonal....... !!! Pausing @2:12sec Very Very strange move by Fischer. I dare to say a wasted of a move by my idol..!! Now B Queen can develop via A5!!!!, pinning the W knight to the King!! Not sure what Fischer would have played next, most likely continue on developing on the right side in continuance of the forward move of W Pawn to F3..... Black now can bring B bishop out to G7, depending on what Fischer would do, B Knight side step to H5 and prepare to come back play via F4 if white dark Bishop has moved away from long diagonal.. Again depending on Fischer's next few moves (i'm sure he would have picked up that fragile double knights of his.... With one of them pinned by the black Queen on A5!!! black Bishop can move to D4, better developing /attacking again. If Fischer decides to castle (surely would in order to prevent pinning of knight) and naturally for safety. As such the black Queen can fully cross to the right side to attack the castled side with Knights and bishops to follow (if no major exchanges have been made). Anyways enough rants from this beginner ... continuing to watch.... Pausing @3,26sec Can't help myself ranting on... Very Very unusual of Bobby to double move his black bishop!! Pausing @4:38sec Best move by the master Fischer as it prevents the black Rook from taking control of column C !!!

The problem with this game is that even if Fisher made a mistake giving up his dark squared bishop, Gligoric may have lost any advantage he gained by giving up his dragon bishop.
