Featured is one of Vladimir Kramnik’s best chess games. It was played at 1996 European Club Cup against Boris Gelfand. Kramnik’s final move of this 28-move encounter is one of the most beautiful ways to end a game. What allowed Kramnik to play such a move against Gelfand was in large part related to the positional components during the opening and middlegame phases. It only takes one badly positioned piece to have a bad position. Pay close attention to all the care Kramnik gives to his king knight once the Shabalov Attack is reached.

Wonderful game by Kramnik. I wish I'd had access to your videos 50 years ago when I was playing high school chess, Jerry. You do a fantastic job explaining positional play, something I never really mastered on my own.

I love it when you upload videos, Jerry because there are a lot of great game recaps out there that do go over lines, but no one spends quite as much time and focus on the positional play and greater concepts and lessons as you do. I learn so much more from these because you don't just take things for granted and gloss over them, you explain each aspect in-depth and it really helps my understanding.

Hey Jerry, I was wondering if you would be interested in making a video about opening theory some time this year. Your explanations of move order and noticing the subtleties always amazes me. As a relatively new competitive chess player I am constantly looking for quality sources that I feel would fit my playing style. I would be very interested in some of your classical game prep if you have some interesting lines you would be willing to share.

Great video as always! Although you don't upload as regularly as others I often take away something. When I play a game and I don't know what to do I often switch to my "inner Jerry voice" trying to recall some of your things you pointed out during your videos to find a plan to continue my game and this actually works. Thanks very much! :)

Thanks Jerry. Kramnik makes it look so easy. I've been playing 7...h6 because that's the move from Shankland's chessable LTR course based around the semi-slav but it's hard to remember move order subtleties...maybe I'll switch to ...Bb4.

Strange how Gelfand played 28. Rxb2 and then resigned after 28. ... Qa2+. The Queen sac was pretty obvious at that point, so I was expecting him to either resign after 27. ... Rxb2 or to play on and allow the mate, but he did neither.
@nugnug501
@nugnug501 Жыл бұрын
I was actually thinking the same thing. I like when GMs will play it out to checkmate, especially for brilliancies and flashy endings like this one (with the double rook-queen sac). Some of the really famous games, like the Game of the Century, are so well-known because they went to checkmate, and so you can see the brilliancy come to fruition.
