Bobby Fischer looks to continue is brilliance in Game 7 and extend his lead in the 1972 World Chess Championship. Spassky is looking to use the white pieces to battle back and tie the series up.

Is there a sound more beautiful and soul stirring than Kevin form the chess website saying, "hey everyone, this is Kevin from the chess website."

Kevin scolds both players and gives better moves for both that he would have played. I consider Kevin the true World Champion in 1972.

It seemed like Fischer was heading for the win, but towards the endgame he seemed to be satisfied with a draw, since he was playing with the black pieces, and he was ahead in the total score.

03:58 i think white could take d6 pawn with the knight and if queen takes then sacrifice the bishop with a discovery and take the black queen .. and if he didnt take the knight then thats a check preventing castling and taking the bishop with an open king
@balazsvarga1221 Жыл бұрын
But after your bishop check he can just go king e7 defending his queen and you are down a knight

what's wrong with using the King to fork the knight and rook at 11:45? that seems crushing to me
@dionlindsay27 жыл бұрын
A chess programme called Stockfish says white would be able to force a draw if black does that. The moves would be 42...Kf7 43.f5 Rxe8 44.Rd7+ Kf8 45.Rxf6+ Kg8 46.Rg6+ Kf8 47.Rf6+

I'm guessing f5, Rxe8, Rd7+ then some fancy rook work gives a good mating threat for white.
@Synecdoche098 жыл бұрын
Good question! I saw the line and wondered the same thing. My OTB analysis is that (I think) the over lying issue is that after 42. ...Kf7 43. f5 Rxe8 44. Rd7+ black cannot stop a perpetual.

+Synecdoche09 Thanks for the analysis! Ill sit down with a board later and go through all variations. If I find anything intersting ill tell everyone.

After king F7 I wouldn't move my pawn to F5, because that way you just give up your knight. Instead of that, protect the rook with the knight: black king F7 white knight C7 Here you can see, that white rook will come to D7, which will make black pawn unprotected, so: black rook F8 white rook D7 black king either to G8 or G6 (doesn't really matter) white knight to E8 black can't do anything up there anymore, either just sacrifice rook for knight, but then he will have nothing to protect his king, and the two white rooks can play against the king easily, or he will just make another move, not concerning with what's going on up there, like stalemate with the king by using the C1 rook, or move that rook to A1, but at this point that move is kind of useless. Either way with the attack white has up against the black king, he will win.

Downvote for spoilers! Some of us (me included!) don't actually know how the games turned out.

What's the statue of limitations on spoiler alerts? Evidently more than 40 years? What did it spoil -- your ability to read a description of the same facts somewhere else?
@tommyod52368 жыл бұрын
It spoiled -- this series I was watching on KZbin. Of course I'm not about to look up the outcome elsewhere, because I'm following along with the series! Kevin is bloody good at making sure he doesn't give away outcomes for matches or tournaments. There is no "statute of limitations on spoiler alerts", there are only spoilers.

+tommyod the fact is these games were played over 40 years ago and the outcome is widely known obviously because fischer became world champion. this was the most popular chess match to date and the most watched chess world championship ever. this was at the peak of the cold war so people everywhere viewed it as "America vs Russia". it's basically common knowledge for anyone into chess. can't really call this a spoiler.
