What do you feed them , or do you ? Thanks fir the video and time. Awesome on both vids.
@murph95673 ай бұрын
If the water temp is really cold 40-55 you usually don’t need to. Higher than that you can just toss worms in there if you’re keeping them for more than a couple weeks

What and how often do you feed your minnows. Great video and the tips will definitely help limit mistakes. Thanks
@murph95672 жыл бұрын
When I have the temp really low I don’t feed them at all. But sometimes I’ll drop worms in there just to watch them eat, they go crazy for them. But feeding isn’t necessary, they’ll still live for 2-3 months.

Great video! Any suggestions on locations to catch chubs and suckers? It sounds like a lot of fun especially with hook and line. Do you see changes in locations summer to fall?
@murph95672 жыл бұрын
Suckers sit in deep holes and come up on shallow rocks with algae at night. Chubs like subtle gravel holes and deeper holes with rocks along them. They’ll be shallower during the summer and deeper once it starts getting cold, holes filled with fallen leaves on the bottom are usually pretty good.

Loved this video. Looking to do this in my basement. Do you think a pond boss filter with pump will be good enough?
@murph95672 жыл бұрын
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, never used one before though. You’ll have to try it out and see.

Great videos! I copied your design a little and its working great. I am having a issue with minnows staying live through. they slowly die off little by little. until they are all dead. Any advise?
@murph95672 жыл бұрын
Could be a few different things. Are you using good water that’s free of any chemicals? Water from the tap in most cities will kill them. How long have you had it running? It usually takes a couple weeks to a month for the biofilter to build up the good bacteria it needs to start cleaning the water properly. Whenever I get mine started back up after not running it for awhile I usually have to let a few die, when his happens they start to release a lot of ammonia into the water, this causes more of the minnows to die but it also gets the filter ready faster. After the first kill off I let the dirty water continue to run through the filter for a couple days, then change half to 3/4 of the water and add minnows back in.

@@murph9567 I use straight well water. I've had it going for a good month and half. I've had the same thing happen to 2 different stocks of minnows I put in from 2 different dealers. Maybe Ill start over clean everything really good and try changing the water more often. Thanks for the info!
@murph95672 жыл бұрын
Hmmm that is odd then, I use well water also. You could look up info on testing the PH of the water and see if something is off there.

I have been using the same settings as you but appears my freezer quit again. Are you having better luck?
@murph9567 Жыл бұрын
I’ve had older freezers die but the one I have now has been going for a couple years.
@mitmortsdans2358 Жыл бұрын
@@murph9567 well I’m chalking it up to bad luck. I’m a year into my new one following very similar settings (maybe exactly to yours). I do wish I could find an old 20 year freezer. They were just built better. I’m only chilling my water to 56 degrees too. Oh well….

Excellent video did you make your own minnow traps if so do you have a video on it if not can you give me the dimensions my son's and I are going to try trapping bait this year we love the videos keep them coming
@murph95672 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes I make them myself, I’ll do a video next time I make some but most likely that won’t be for a couple months, here’s a link to a video I based mine off of though. Only difference is I cut a door in mine and make mine smaller so they store better and work in shallower water. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqDUqJKMnJyIjsk

Hi Murph do you use a Fluval Biomax? I have the filter set up as you recommended but was wondering about adding this biomax product. Any comments? David
@murph9567 Жыл бұрын
Any biofiler media will work well. I have not used that personally as the pot scrubbers do all I need them to.

Good deal. I have purchased everything you used except five gallon bucket and plumbing. I was thinking about purchasing a 30 quart cooler and plumbing because of the condensation you mentioned. I live in the deep south. Ala. Thanks for the informative video.

I have a long freezer I raise bluegill to catfish with . how cold do you recommend and do you have a problem with ammonia? thanks
@murph95672 жыл бұрын
No the bio filter removes all the ammonia. I’d keep the water near what it is in the lakes/rivers you’re fishing, and below 70 at the maximum.
@ronable86132 жыл бұрын
do you find that with the new set up you have enough o2s in the water for the minnows

Ok so I haven’t put any fish in my bait tank yet but my silicone got slimy and turned pink. Any ideas why or how to fix it? I cant find anything on KZbin . Thanks
@murph95672 жыл бұрын
Never heard of that happening, but as long as it’s not leaking I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
@Gittinjiggy012 жыл бұрын
@@murph9567 I finally figured out that the silicone I used wasn’t meant for continuous use under water. Decided to get some actual fish tank silicone. Thanks for the response.

how do you attach the pvc to the pump ?

A lot of pond pumps have a threaded discharge port, so I got a threaded PVC piece that fit mine.
