As a citizen who still lives in Chester-le-street, I think it is amazing to look into the past and see what this town was like. I have only experienced it through the modern days and am still. So it is amazing to see the past.

Great memories, thanks for posting. I moved away from CLS in 1968 but recognise many of the places in the photos from my childhood. CLS was a great place to grow up in the '60s.

Thank you for posting this video. I lived near Chester-le-Street from 1975 until 1997. I recognised all of the pubs and some of the shops. Such a shame that most of them are now kebab shops, pawn brokers, bookies or charity shops. (Thanks Amazon!)

Brought back memories of when I was a little lad growing up in Chester. I wish there was such a thing as a time machine....

@ 0.45 the newsagents is owned by Robinson so this must have been taken after 1971 . Before that it was called Wears , owned by my grandfather then my Dad until the fire in the arcade in 1970 .

It's interesting to pictures of five different newsagents in the town . I wonder how many there are now ? My late Dad's favourite story was about a paper boy he employed who had to let go because he took too much time off to go and play football in various teams . My Dad did like him and tried to give him some friendly advise . " Lot's of young lads want to become footballers when they grow up and not many of them make it , " . The young lad went on to be captain of Manchester Utd and England ! ( I'm sure I don't need to say it was Bryan Robson ) .
