Chests. Khakassia. Timelapse
The Chests Mountain Range is a natural and historical natural monument of republican significance in the Ordzhonikidze and Shirinsky districts of the Republic of Khakassia. Since June 18, 2011, the Chests Museum-Reserve has been operating on the territory of the mountain range.
The mountain range with a total area of 2,100 hectares stretches in the direction from south to north, being a continuation of the Efremkinsky ridge of the spurs of the Kuznetsk Alatau. The ridge consists of five detached outlier mountains up to 200 meters high. The ridge got its name from the northernmost mountain, at the top of which there is a rock-remnant "Chest" in the form of a parallelepiped, resembling a chest in its outlines. The mountains themselves received the corresponding serial numbers: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th chests. The remnant is composed of red Devonian sandstone of a characteristic brown-brown color. Hence its other name (khak. Khizil-haya (Red Rock). All Chests are characterized by a sharp asymmetry: the eastern slope at the top drops abruptly downward, while the western slope gently descends into the valley. Sometimes the Chests include 4 more mountains south of the White Ius channel (6 -9th chests, respectively): Abyakh-haya (Bratsk rock), Cross-haya (Cross rock), Orta-haya (Middle rock), Uzunkhaya (Long rock).
